A Shenandoah man already indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography offenses is among those scheduled to plead not guilty Tuesday during arraignment on similar charges in Schuylkill County Court.
Jonathan M. Binns, 37, of 234 W. Lloyd St., was arrested by state police Trooper John Powis of the Frackville station and charged with rape, rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of an unconscious person, indecent assault and corruption of minors.
The charges are the result of Binns allegedly raping and sexually assaulting two pre-teenage girls between May 1 and Oct. 1, 2010.
Binns' federal indictment was the result of a state police investigation into incidents involving the man at his home between February 2006 and his arrest for those crimes on Oct. 14, 2010.
Police said Binns collected pornographic images of children on his computer, as well as on a thumb drive. Both were seized during the execution of a search warrant.
During the investigation, police learned that Binns allegedly took photographs and videos of the pre-teenage girls in various stages of undress, as well as of himself performing various sexual acts on them.
In connection with the ongoing child pornography investigation, the federal grand jury indictment on Jan. 25, 2011, charged Binns with two counts of producing child pornography and one count of receiving and distributing child pornography.
