Great American Power to double size of local workforce

A Pottsville-based telecommunications business which also sells electricity plans to double the size of its workforce by year's end.

Telecommunications On Demand and Great American Power, 320 N. Centre St., currently has 80 employees, many customer service representatives, and they are looking to hire another 80 by December, Jeffrey L. Bornstein, Orwigsburg, the firm's chairman, said Wednesday.

"We're starting to go to job fairs. Our energy company is really growing. We're not providing any benefits right now, but the jobs offer 30 hours a week, six hours per day, with the option of working Saturdays," Bornstein said.

People interested in those jobs can email their resumes to jobs@tcdemand.com or visit Pennsylvania CareerLink at 201-203 E. Arch St., Pottsville, Bornstein said.

Bornstein established Telecommunications On Demand in Orwigsburg in 1994. This is the fifth year in a row it has been recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the Inc. 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the United States, according to tcdemand.com

It is the parent company for Great American Power, which he started in April 2011.

Great American Power buys its electricity from numerous sources and sells it to consumers through telemarketing, Bornstein said. The company website is greatamericanpower.com.

He currently has 180 employees in two offices: 80 in Pottsville; and 100 in Clearwater, Fla.

At the Pottsville office, Bornstein said there are two shifts, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 to 9 p.m. And he said he's considering establishing a third shift.
