n Barnesville: A basic kayaking course is set for 5 p.m. June 29 at Tuscarora State Park. Participants will meet at the old lifeguard shack on the beach. It will be conducted by the park naturalist. Kayaks, paddles and life vests will be provided. Registration is required by signing up at the park office prior to the event via phone at 570-467-2506 or in person. The cost is $15. Those who have their own equipment can participate for $5. There will be no refunds unless the class is canceled by the park staff. The course will not be held in the event of inclement weather. Children 12 and older must be accompanied by adults.

n Minersville: God's Bountiful Table meals folks who are disadvantaged or in need and are held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month in the Father Anthony J. Ricapito Annex of St. Matthew the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 139 Spruce St.

n Minersville: St. Michael the Archangel Vacation Bible School is set for 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 25 at 538 Sunbury St. for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Call Sister Catherine Therese to register at 570-544-4741

n Pine Grove: The 20th annual Rest Haven TGIF Golf Tournament is set for June 29 at Hidden Valley Golf Course with a shotgun start at 1:15 p.m. The cost is $75 per golfer. For more information, call Lisa Brinich at 570-385-0331. Proceeds will benefit the Rest Haven Resident Council Fund.

n Pine Grove: Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney will conduct a session regarding edible and medicinal plants from 2 to 3:30 p.m. June 23 at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. According to a release, years ago people turned to field and forest for food and also for what ailed them. McKinney will lead participants into the field, so they should dress accordingly. Attendants will meet at the Waterfall Road parking lot. The session is free and open to the public. For more information about the park, go online to www.sweetarrowlakepark.com.

n Pine Grove: An Indian archeological dig will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. June 30 at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. According to organizers, from a portable dig, children will use a garden spade to find artifacts buried in the earth and seek to find the use of those items. Indian expert Dave McSurdy will lead the free program. Participants will meet at the gazebo at the fish and boat parking lot. n Pottsville: A free Penn State Extension public information presentation on Lyme disease is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 26 at the Schuylkill Ag Center Conference Room, 1202 Ag Center Drive. Dr. Ron Hamlen, vice chairman of the Lyme Disease Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, will discuss the primary concerns surrounding Lyme disease and explain the ongoing research to control and eradicate it. n Primrose: The annual St. Nicholas Parish Picnic is set for June 30 and July 1 at the St. Nicholas Grove, Route 901. There will be ethnic food, games and entertainment. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 570-544-4581.

n Saint Clair: Deb Davis will lead the Bicentennial Trail Blitz Revisited beginning at 10 a.m. June 30 at Admiral Boone Park. The more than two-mile walk around town will last about an hour. Participants should dress appropriately for conditions and bring water to stay hydrated.

n Schuylkill Haven: An Island Park Cruise-In and Car Show is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24. The route is Centre Avenue to Dock Street then to Fritz Reed Avenue, following signs to the show. The event is open to all collectible vehicles, hot rods, antiques, muscle cars and trucks. The fee is $5 per show car with proceeds used to benefit the Island Park project. Spectators are welcome. n Valley View: The Tri-Valley Food Pantry in the Hegins Township building, Gap Street, distributes food from 8 to 10 a.m. the third Wednesday of odd months. The site contacts are Craig Coleman and Neal Shadle, 570-682-9133, according to Jason Schally, program operations specialist with Pottsville-based Schuylkill Community Action. In addition to Valley View, the pantry serves Hegins and Barry, Eldred, Upper Mahantongo and Hubley townships.
