Palo Alto man

charged in theft

AUBURN - A Palo Alto man was charged with theft and driving with a revoked driver's license following an incident that occurred at 7:45 p.m. May 13 in the area of the borough building, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Monday that John Paul Snyder, 61, took about 50 pounds of aluminum cans that had been donated to the Auburn Boy Scouts from the area at Fifth and Pearson streets.

Police said a witness observed the man taking the cans and driving away. The witness followed Snyder's vehicle and got a good description of the man and the vehicle's registration plate, enabling police to find and stop the vehicle, police said.

The charges were filed through the office of Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, police said.

2 children hurt

in 2-car crash

GIRARDVILLE - Two children suffered minor injuries in a crash that occurred at 7 p.m. Sunday on East Mahanoy Avenue, Route 54, at Fifth Street, police said.

State police at Frackville said Thomas A. Brobst, 28, of Ashland, was driving a 2010 Jeep Patriot on Fifth Street when he tried to turn left from a stop sign onto Route 54 and drove into the path of a 2000 Saturn SL-1 that was eastbound on Route 54 and driven by Angela Smith, 28, of Shenandoah.

Brobst and his passenger, Jonas Smith, 54, of Ashland, along with Angela Smith and one of her passengers, a 2-year-old girl in a child safety seat, all escaped injury, police said.

Two other children in Angela Smith's vehicle, a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, who were both in safety seats, suffered minor injuries.

Police said Brobst will be cited for a stop sign violation and Angela Smith faces a citation for having one of the child safety seats installed improperly.

Girardville firefighters and EMS And Shenandoah ALS assisted at the scene, police said.

Vehicle damaged

in parking lot

PORT CLINTON - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a criminal mischief incident that occurred in the area of the Appalachian Trail parking lot near Route 61 in East Brunswick Township between 4:30 and 6 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Corinne Ann Swagerman, Landisville, reported that someone damaged the passenger- and driver-side key holes on her 2001 Hyundai Elantra and smashed out the passenger-side window and cracked the passenger-side mirror glass. Nothing was reported stolen, but police said damage is estimated at $200.

Copper piping,

scrap taken

NEW RINGGOLD - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a burglary that occurred between April 21 and Friday in the 2300 block of Summer Valley Road in East Brunswick Township.

Police said Lisa Strausser reported that someone entered her vacant property and removed copper pipe and other scrap before fleeing the scene detected.

Frackville man

faces charges

GIRARDVILLE - A 45-year-old Frackville man was arrested by state police at Frackville and charged with public drunkenness after an incident in the 300 block of West Mahanoy Avenue at 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Robert Jessman will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale, Frackville.

Police said Jessman was arrested after he was causing a disturbance in the area and was found by police in a highly intoxicated condition.

Man charged

in Gratz crash

GRATZ - A 21-year-old Klingerstown man escaped injury when the 1989 Ford Escort he was driving crashed on Luxemburg Road in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, at 8:25 p.m. Saturday, police said.

State police at Lykens said Stephen M. Straub was driving east when he lost control while driving a left curve at an excessive speed. The man's car skidded about 150 feet, crossed the oncoming lane, went off the road and struck a utility pole.

Police said Straub was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, careless driving, failure to drive on roadways for traffic, driving at an unsafe speed, driving a vehicle without an official Certificate of Inspection and driving without insurance.

Gratz firefighters and Medic 6 assisted at the scene, police said.

Car's front door

sustains damage

WILLIMAMSTOWN - A criminal mischief incident that occurred at 242 Vine St. in this Dauphin County community between June 3 and 5 is being investigated by state police at Lykens.

Police said Debra Domboski reported that someone damaged a front door of her vehicle and then fled the scene.

Pottsville woman

injured in crash

ORWIGSBURG - A Pottsville woman suffered a minor injury in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning at Route 61 and Brick Hill Road in West Brunswick Township, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 2011 GMC Sierra driven by John W. Balliet, 65, of Nuangola, was stopped at the stop sign on Brick Hill Road at 11:50 a.m. and preparing to turn left onto Route 61 south and a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 HD driven by Adam T. Dallago, 25, of Mar Lin, was northbound on Route 61 in the right lane. Police said Dallago estimated that he was driving about 55 mph.

Police said Balliet began to turn left onto Route 61 as Dallago approached the intersection, causing Dallago to steer to the left to avoid a collision, but the front right corner of Dallago's truck collided with the left front corner of Balliet's vehicle, causing Balliet's vehicle to turn clockwise and come to rest in the travel lanes of Route 61. Dallago's truck continued across the southbound lanes of Route 61 and came to rest along the west shoulder, police said.

Police said Balliet and his passenger, Sharon L. Balliet, 61, of Nuangola, were wearing seat belts and were not hurt. Dallago and his passenger, Jennifer H. Reilly, 24, of Pottsville, were also wearing seat belts, but Reilly suffered a minor injury and was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street by Orwigsburg EMS for treatment.

Police said John Balliet was cited for traffic offenses through the office of Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier.
