n Pine Grove: Are there Fairies at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park? Children will be able to set free their imaginations at the park from 6 to 7 p.m. July 17 to search for fairies, gnomes and woodland creatures, according to a park press release. Advance registration is requested by calling 570-527-2505 by July 7 so that sufficient supplies can be provided. Participants will explore and hunt for fairy dwellings, learn about how these spirits of nature help take care of the planet, how they live, the food they eat, the games they play and their hobbies. They will sample some fairy food, create a fairy home and play games and have fun like the gnomes. "Join us on a search for the people of the trees and maybe a search for the trees that see," organizers said in a release. There will also be crafts for all ages. "We want to encourage you to let your little ones use their imaginations and express their inner spirits of nature by dressing up as their favorite woodland creature, fairy, gnome, elf (costumes not required). n Port Carbon: Registration for the Fourth of July parade is set for 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Turkey Hill market, Pike Street, or by calling Deniece at 570-622-5824. The parade is open to all children up to 12 years of age. It will be the 65th anniversary of the fireworks display in the borough. Floats will be needed and prizes will be awarded for all divisions. The theme this year is "The Good Old Days."
n Quakake: The Quakake Volunteer Fire Company stages bingo games on the third Wednesday of the month in the firehouse. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the company. Everyone is welcome.
n Schuylkill Haven: The Schuylkill Haven Area Elementary Center will conduct kindergarten screening July 10 for any new students who have moved into the district and for those who were not screened in the spring. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. People may also call the school office at 570-385-6731 to register children for screening dates and times. All kindergarten students must be screened before attending school.
n Shenandoah: A concert featuring the Upper School Marching Band is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at American Legion Memorial Garden in the 100 block of North Main Street, sponsored by M&T Bank. During the concert intermission, members of the Shenandoah Rotary Club will announce the memorial flags that have been donated to date to fly in downtown Shenandoah for holidays and patriotic occasions. The Rotary's memorial flag project is ongoing.
n Shenandoah: The annual Polish American Fire Company block party will be held July 6-8 on North West Street between Centre and Lloyd streets. There will be no parking from 3 to 10 p.m. July 6 along the 100 and 200 blocks of West Centre Street, the first block of South West Street and the first and 100 blocks of South Chestnut Street to park the emergency vehicles participating in the annual truck parade. The borough council gave its approval for the event at its February meeting.
