TOWER CITY - A robber struck the Halifax Bank on Friday morning, getting away with an undetermined amount of cash.
It was the second bank robbery in Schuylkill County this month.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said that about 10:10 a.m., a black man entered the bank at 920 E. Wiconisco Ave., walked up to a teller and demanded money.
The man did not show or use a weapon and was handed money from the teller, Trooper Chad Smith said.
After getting the money, the man left the bank and walked across East Wiconisco Avenue and fled the area.
The man is described as being in his late 20s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall with scruffy facial hair.
Smith said the robber was wearing a dark baseball hat, a long-sleeve flannel shirt and blue jeans.
On June 6, a man robbed Miners Bank at 29 E. Main St. in Tremont, a town fewer than 10 miles away. In that case, a black man entered Miners Bank, did not display a weapon and demanded money from a teller.
After receiving money, the man exited the bank and walked across Main Street, between two houses into an alley that runs parallel to Route 209, between Union Street and Good Spring Road.
Trooper John Sleboda Jr. said the Tremont robber then got into a dark mid-size vehicle driven by another man and both then fled the scene.
That robber was described as about 6 feet 2 inches tall with a medium build, and between 30 and 35 years old with scruffy facial hair.
He was wearing a dark New York Yankees baseball hat, a black shirt and black jeans, the trooper said.
There was no description of the driver of the getaway car other than that he was also a black man, Sleboda said.
As in the Tremont heist, the Tower City bank was closed after the robbery as investigators viewed video surveillance and collected evidence.
Anyone with information on either bank robbery is asked to call state police at Schuylkill Haven at 570-593-2000.
