Girardville woman faces charges
A 40-year-old Girardville woman is free on bail after being arrested by Pottsville police and charged with hitting a man with her vehicle near East Market Street and Logan Alley about 10:05 p.m. Saturday.
Police said Crystal M. Eisenhart was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, on charges of recklessly endangering another person and simple assault and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
Police said officers were called to the area for a report of a pedestrian struck and learned Eisenhart was involved in a domestic dispute with Scott D. Smoluk, 41, of Girardville, who was found lying in the street with severe injuries.
Smoluk was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street by Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS and then flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he is listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
Police said the two were in a parked vehicle having an argument when Smoluk tried to get out of the vehicle but Eisenhart accelerated and tried to drive south onto Logan Alley but in doing so, struck a gas meter and street sign.
The woman then turned east onto Market Street at a high rate of speed and onto a sidewalk, hitting another sign and Smoluk, who was standing on a curb, police said.
The woman then drove off the sidewalk and back onto East Market Street, then back onto the curb on the north side of the street, causing her 2000 Ford Explorer to roll onto its passenger's side, police said.
Pottsville firefighters assisted at the scene.
