ORWIGSBURG - A dozen cellular communication antennas may be placed on a borough water tower.

At a borough council work session Monday, Scott Devlin, with GTL USA Inc., Camp Hill, contracted by Verizon Wireless, spoke about leasing space on the water tower at Ridgeview Drive.

Going over a list of 28 items, the council and Devlin discussed the lease that has yet to be made final. The borough could see $1,500 a month in revenue for the use of the tower with a 3 percent increase in rent each year. Typically leases are for a five-year term, Devlin said.

Borough manager Mike Lonergan said the lease could be made final in August. The proposal is for 12 antennas, not exceeding 10 feet, atop the 70 foot high water tower. A special exception is needed for such use, Lonergan said. An application has not been made to the zoning hearing board yet. Once it is, a hearing must take place within 60 days, he said. Plans have not been submitted to the borough engineer either, Longergan said.

A small shed for equipment is also proposed.

Devlin said the use is being proposed to increase capacity and coverage in the area.

Installation of the devices will depend upon all necessary approvals and could be completed by the end of the year, Devlin said.
