Baking pans, cooking utensils, photo frames and gifts can be personalized with names and a variety of design options. The sale will continue through the end of the year. n Mahanoy City: The Active Christian Teens in our Neighborhood Youth Group of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church, Mahanoy City, and St. Richard Roman Catholic Church, Barnesville, will celebrate its 30th anniversary Aug. 19. To mark the event, the Very Rev. John O. Barres, bishop of the Diocese of Allentown, will be the main celebrant at a special 3 p.m. Mass in Blessed Teresa church. Following the Mass, there will be a banquet in the church hall with dinner and "surprises," according to a release from Deborah Walker, ACTION Youth Group director. Everyone is welcome to join the celebration. "We are putting a special shout-out to our alumni, families and friends to come to this reunion of Christians from the past 30 years." The cost is $16 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. Attendees are asked to wear something red "as our banquet will be filled with fiesta fun." ACTION was formed in 1982 with a mission to keep teens connected to their church and their faith. Sponsored by the Catholic Church, it welcomes teens of all religions and has three dimensions: A social dimension to help teens form friendships that can last a lifetime; a service aspect that teaches teens it is important to help those less fortunate, the elderly, children and community, and the spiritual aspect that God is the center of our group. n Primrose: The Gear Grinders Hot Rod Association of Pottsville will host its 16th annual car show and basket auction from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4 at the South Cass Fire Company grounds, Route 901 here, according to an association release. It will feature hot rods, antique, classic, custom, muscle cars, trucks and the cars of today's generation. A basket auction will also be held, and musical entertainment will be provided by disc jockey To-Shea Sound. Food and beverages will be available. Vehicle registration will begin at 8 a.m. All registered vehicles must be on the field by 11 a.m. in order to be judged. The first 150 entries will receive goody bags and dash plaques. Registration fee is $10. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place in 30 classes. Special awards will include Best of Show and the annual Dick McDonough Memorial Award. McDonough, who was an active club member, died suddenly in September 2001. The award is sponsored by Robyn's Diner, Schuylkill Haven, where McDonough had been a frequent visitor. Children will be randomly chosen to vote for their favorite vehicles. Tony Brophy, show chairman, said the public is invited to attend and participate in the themed basket auction, which is held during the show. Auction winners do not need to be present if their names and phone numbers are entered on their tickets. Proceeds from the basket auction will benefit the Gear Grinders' annual achievement awards provided to graduating students from Schuylkill Career and Technology Center's Auto Body and Auto Technology programs. Visitors are asked to make a $1 donation to the Hillside SPCA, the club's 2012 charity organization. Donations received at the car show will be added to the proceeds from the club's annual Charity Cruise-In, which was held in May at Advance Auto in the Cressona Mall.
