3 charged for
underage drinking
CRESSONA - Three people were arrested by state police at Schuylkill Haven and charged with underage drinking after loud noise alerted authorities to 11 Rudy St. about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said Phillip Snyder Jr., 19, of New Ringgold, Mark Leib, 18, of Friedensburg, and Shelby Cooley, 19, of Richfield Springs, N.Y., will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg.
Police said they were called to the area for a report of loud noise and learned the three had consumed alcohol, all being under the age of 21.
Police: Woman
causes crash
BERNVILLE - A crash that occurred at Route 183 north and Walden Road in Jefferson Township, Berks County, at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday was investigated by state police at Hamburg.
Polilce said Samantha Lynn Bisbing, 19, of Auburn, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier trying to enter Route 183 from a clearly posted stop sign, failed to look both ways and collided with a 2008 Honda CRV driven south on Route 183 by Carol J. Zellers, 58, of Bernville.
Both drivers escaped injury and their vehicles were towed from the scene, police said.
Berks County Fire Police and Bernville Township Fire Police assisted at the scene, police said.
Myerstown man
crashes on I-81
DONALDSON - A 19-year-old Myerstown man escaped injury when the 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck he was driving crashed in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81, at mile marker 111.2 in Frailey Township, at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
State police at Frackville said Sean Clemens was driving south when he fell asleep, causing his truck to go off the left side of the road and into the median where it hit a tree and overturned onto its driver's side.
Police said Clemens, who will be cited for careless driving, refused EMS treatment at the scene and that Tremont EMS and Donaldson firefighters assisted.
Thief returns cap,
runs from store
SAINT CLAIR - State police at Schuylkill Haven investigated a theft that occurred at Boscov's Department Store at Fairlane Village mall in Norwegian Township about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said a white man picked up a Philadelphia Eagles knit cap valued at $25, concealed the item and the left the store.
When confronted by store security, police said, the man returned to cap to a loss prevention member and then fled the scene on foot toward Route 61.
The man was wearing white sneakers, blue jeans and a black jacket and had a tattoo on the back of his neck.

Mountain bike
found by police
CUMBOLA - Blythe Township police reported they recently recovered a bicycle in the area of the Cumbola Post Office.
The bicycle is a men's style mountain bike. Anyone wishing to claim the bicycle can call police at 570-277-6391.
3 thefts occur in
Hometown area
HOMETOWN - Rush Township police investigated three incidents that occurred Dec. 30 in their coverage area.
Police said a resident at Hometown Nursing Center reported the theft of a diamond ring valued at about $5,000.
That same day, police said Kristen Kester, Mahanoy City, reported a Vera Bradley wristlet containing credit cards was stolen from a shopping cart at Wal-Mart about 11:15 a.m.
Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call police at 570-668-4242.
Also on Dec. 30, police said Brandon Leslie, Lansford, was arrested and charged with retail theft for stealing items valued at $5.88 from Wal-Mart.
Leslie will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.
Man arrested for
open lewdness
HOMETOWN - Rush Township police arrested a 48-year-old Lansford man and charged him with open lewdness and harassment after an incident on Dec. 30.
Police said Thomas B. Mitchell will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.
Mitchell, police said, sent a picture text message of his private parts to a co-worker while working at Hometown Nursing Center.
City man charged
in retail theft
FRACKVILLE - State police at Frackville investigated a retail theft incident that occurred at Sears in the Schuylkill Mall, New Castle Township, about noon Thursday.
Police said Justin Tielman, Pottsville, was seen by store employees removing a Sony PS3 wireless controller without paying for it.
Tielman will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko, Port Carbon, police said.
