n Frackville: Advance orders for pierogies are being taken by Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, 209 S. Lehigh Ave. Pickup will be 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 17 at the church. Patrons have a choice of pierogies boiled with butter and onions, deep fried or frozen. To order, call 570-874-7532. Proceeds will benefit David Phillips' rehabilitation.

n Frackville: The Frackville Recreation Board will sponsor a free pool party for all ages from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Frackville Memorial Pool, Pine Street. It will include a free swim and music by disc jockey Drew. The concession stand will be open.

n Maizeville: The annual St. John/St. Michael picnic will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Aug. 18 and noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 at the St. John Picnic Grove along Main Street in this section of Gilberton borough. The Pennsylvania Good Times will provide live music from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and the Pennsylvania Villagers will perform from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. There will be ethnic food including pyrohy (pierogies), holubtsi (halupkis stuffed cabbage), halushki (cabbage and noodles), bleenies (fried potato pancakes) and kobasa (kielbasa) as well as open fire kettle bean soup. Homemade desserts, beverages, games and novelties will also be available. A theme basket auction, featuring more than 30 baskets, will be conducted over the two-day picnic. n Pine Grove: An event involving pumpkin decorating and flour pounding is set for 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. The hands-on class, free and open to the public, is suitable for teens and adults. Participants will meet at the park clubhouse. n Pottsville: Via the Penn State Master Gardeners Horticulture Line, volunteers are available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through Sept. 26 at the Schuylkill County Cooperation Extension office to answer questions about flowers, shrubs, lawn, garden soil, vegetables, pH, insects or disease on plants. n Saint Clair: A Southside Scramble, part of the Walk Saint Clair series, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 starting at Admiral Boone Park, led by Patrick M. "Porcupine Pat" McKinney, environmental education coordinator with the Schuylkill Conservation District. Walkers will enjoy a "late summer jaunt" along Mill Creek, which winds its way to Port Carbon. The three-mile hike will last at least an hour. Participants should dress appropriately for conditions and bring water to stay hydrated.

n Shenandoah: Knights of Columbus Council 618 will sponsor a mega all-dabber bingo beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Parish hall, Main and Oak streets. There will be a $50 prize per regular game, jackpot of $1,000 and $20 package only. Specials will be sold separately. Doors will open at noon and food and refreshments will be available. n Shenandoah: There will be no meeting of the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society in August.

n Zion Grove: Mount Zion Lutheran Church will hold its annual picnic on Saturday on the church grounds. The food stand will open at 4 p.m. Entertainment by variety singer and entertainer Leilani Chesonis will begin at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
