LLEWELLYN - Good Intent Hose Company No. 1 is expecting a big turnout this weekend for its second annual All-Terrain Vehicle Poker Run.
"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," Steve Nagy, firefighter with the company, said Thursday. "Because we are so far out and it's not a big town, we don't have the ability to do a block party. So what we do is we pick a weekend in the summer, get all the members we can and put this on."
Nagy said 1,000 to 1,200 people are expected to show up Saturday, including 52 from West Virginia.
The people from West Virginia came in six campers, Nagy said, as the event features a camp site this year for participants to stay until Sunday night.
While the event has been advertised, Nagy said most people have heard about the event from people who attended last year.
"Everyone has just been spreading the word," Nagy said. "Everyone that was here last year said they would be here again and bring people with them."
Last year, Nagy said there were 480 riders and the event raised about $11,000 for the fire company.
The poker run starts at Good Intent Hose Company No. 1, 12 Silverton Road, at 9 a.m. Saturday. There are a total of five stops along the 32-mile course, with the last one being the return to the fire house. At each stop, the player pulls a card out of a deck and tries to make the best poker hand.
Nagy said there will be monetary prizes for both the best and worst hands.
The fire company will also be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight and a breakfast from 6 to 9 a.m. Saturday.
Registration is $15 to play as a driver and $10 as a passenger. People can still register for the poker run at www.llewellynhose.com or by calling the fire company at 570-544-9974.
