Friends of a recent Mahanoy Area High School graduate who died in a crash Tuesday are remembering him with a memorial on Twitter.
Loretta A. Murphy, elementary school nurse at Mahanoy Area, is among those who are spreading the word, asking people to remember Jonathan "Feet" Palubinsky, 18, of 325 W. Pine St., Mahanoy City, with a salute on Twitter.
"I don't tweet but I'm trying to promote it on Facebook. It did go global for a few minutes around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Tweets were coming in from London, Australia, India and everywhere. It's pretty cool," Murphy, Ashland, said Thursday.
Palubinsky died Tuesday as a result of a car crash in Locust Valley. Born in Pottsville, he was a son of Jeffrey Palubinsky, Catawissa, and Cindy Sherman Palubinsky, Mahanoy City, according to his obituary.
"One of his wishes was that he wanted to become famous, not from money or for the prestige, but just because he wanted to prove that he could do something like that," Murphy said.
So friends are asking Twitter users far and wide to "#HONK4FEET."
Just typing that into Google will show how popular it's become.
Murphy has been trying to promote it because she believes it's one way Palubinsky's family and friends can honor his memory.
"I think it's helping them cope and if it can help them deal with this tragedy, then I feel it's a good thing. Jonathan was a wonderful boy. He was very well-loved by his classmates. He was a firefighter and he was planning to become a history teacher," Murphy said.
Palubinsky's parents could not be reached for comment Thursday.
