MAHANOY CITY - A 25-year-old borough man was jailed earlier this week and charged by borough police with harboring a fugitive wanted by the Schuylkill County district attorney's office.
Police also said they have warrants out for a woman wanted on identical charges stemming from the same incident.
Patrolman Robert Romanick charged James F. Killian, 1231 E. Pine St., with two felony counts of hindering apprehension of a fugitive and one misdemeanor charge of obstructing the administration of law.
Killian was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10-percent of $10,000 bail.
Romanick said identical charges were filed against Sara M. Hook, 32, of 818 E. Railroad St., Mahanoy City. Romanick said Hook lives in Mahanoy City and works in the Allentown area and asks that anyone knowing her whereabouts to call police at 570-773-2310.
Romanick said the charges stem from a June 1 incident when police assisted county detectives in serving a fugitive warrant for Ryan Gallo, 36, who was wanted for several years and believed to be staying with Hook, his girlfriend, at her East Railroad Street home.
When officers knocked on the door, Romanick said the sounds of both people and dogs could be heard inside the home. No one answered the door but the officer said Killian could be seen through a window sleeping or passed out on a chair.
After about five minutes, Romanick said Hook answered the door, was told about the warrant for Gallo and that the house was going to be searched.
Hook appeared scared and told police Gallo was not inside the home and that she had not seen him in about two years, Romanick said.
Both Killian and Hook were removed from the home and a search resulted in Gallo being found in an upstairs bedroom/bathroom and taken into custody without incident, Romanick said.
As Gallo was being escorted out of the house, Romanick said Hook looked at him and asked "who is that" and how did he get into her house.
After Gallo was placed in a police cruiser, Romanick said Killian said he knew the man was in the house but didn't want to "rat him out."
Both Killian and Hook, when she is apprehended, will have to appear on the charges before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.
