ORWIGSBURG - A North Manheim Township man sits in Schuylkill County Prison after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing on Aug. 7 on charges stemming from an alleged assault in July against a woman.

Jose F. Cabrera Jr., 20, of 63 N. Lake Drive, Willow Lake, Pottsville, is charged with simple assault and harassment as a result of the incident.

Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier bound over those charges for court after Cabrera waived his right to a hearing.

State police at Schuylkill Haven alleged that Cabrera assaulted Justine M. Hauptly, 20, of Pottsville, about 2:15 p.m. July 14 at his residence.

Police said Hauptly told them Cabrera punched and kicked her in the head during an argument.

When Hauptly tried to get away, Cabrera bit her, according to police.

Bruises and bite makes were visible on Hauptly after the incident, police said.

Cabrera is in prison in lieu of $5,000 straight cash bail pending further court action.
