Pottsville police arrested a man Sunday and charged him with burglarizing a city business earlier this month.
Police said Jordan Hauptly, 20, was arraigned on charges stemming from a burglary at Towne Drugs Pharmacy, 19 S. Centre St., on Aug. 9.
Security footage from cameras mounted on the offices of The Republican-Herald helped police with their investigation.
According to police, they pulled the man over for a traffic violation at 9:50 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of North Centre Street.
During the stop, police said officers saw contraband in plain view in the vehicle and a mask identical to the one worn by the person who committed the Aug. 9 burglary.
Police said they interviewed Hauptly and he admitted to committing the burglary at Towne Drugs Pharmacy, a burglary at a pharmacy in Tamaqua and one in Saint Clair during the past month.
Meanwhile, Pottsville police are waiting for DNA test results from the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab in Bethlehem on samples taken from the scene of an attempted burglary Aug. 11 at the Rite Aid store, Route 61 and Mill Creek Avenue.
Police said they believe Hauptly is responsible for that crime, as well.
Pottsville police Capt. Richard Wojciechowsky said that police in Tamaqua and Saint Clair were told about Hauptly admitting to crimes in their boroughs and they are completing their investigations with charges pending.
Hauptly was arraigned on charges of burglary and related offenses by on-call Magisterial District Judge Christina E. Hale, Frackville, and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail.
He will now have to answer to the charges stemming from the Towne Drugs Pharmacy burglary before Magisterial District Judge James K. Reiley, Pottsville.
