Port Carbon men to face charges

PORT CARBON - Two people were arrested by Port Carbon police and charged with disorderly conduct after an incident at 21 Pine St. about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Police said Seth Leeper, 19, and Anthony Joy, 18, both of Port Carbon, will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.

Police said officers and the fire department were called to a reported structure fire on Spruce Street and no flames but smoke coming from a home but no flames or smell of smoke.

It was determined that Leeper and Joy filled the home with artificial smoke with a machine causing numerous calls from neighbors to the county 911 center reporting a structure fire.

In addition to Port Carbon firefighters, firefighters from Palo Alto and Pottsville were also called as well as Pottsville EMS.

East Norwegian Township Police assisted at the scene, police said.

Police investigate hit-and-run crash

PORT CARBON - Port Carbon police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred in the area of Mill and Pike streets about 5:20 p.m. Friday.

Police said someone driving an older model white Mitsubishi Eclipse struck a Mercury Grand Marquis that was parked in the first block of Pike Street.

The hit-and-run driver then fled the area toward Pottsville on Coal Street, police said.

Police investigate illegal dumping

WILLIAMSTOWN - State police at Lykens are investigating the dumping of multiple trash bags at the residence of Lynn Alan Zeller, 54, 991 W. Broad St., Williams Township, at noon Aug. 14.

Police said a bank account statement from Mid Penn Bank was found in one of the bags as the investigation continues.

Man admits to drug use in crash

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police investigated a crash that occurred on Fairview Street about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Kyle J. Kuczynski, Mahanoy City, was driving a vehicle that struck a utility pole and that a 14-year-old passenger in the car reported the man blacked out while driving and that he tried to steer the car but could not.

Kuczynski admitted huffing an air duster and also to smoking marijuana earlier in the day, police said.

He was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood test, police said adding that he and his passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police probe Reedsville crash

REEDSVILLE - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a crash that occurred on Schwartz Valley Road, just south of Route 183 in Wayne Township, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said someone was driving west when they went off the road and struck several mailboxes.

After hitting the mailboxes, the driver re-entered the road and continued west without stopping.

Sheds broken into in Lykens

LYKENS - State police at Lykens are investigating a burglary that occurred at 5583 Route 209 in Washington Township, Dauphin County, between Aug. 14 and Saturday.

Police said Hilda M. Klinger, Lykens, reported someone broke into sheds on her property and then fled the area.

Sunbury man injured in crash

LAVELLE - A 50-year-old Sunbury man suffered moderate injuries when the 2003 Honda motorcycle he was driving crashed on Beaury's Road in Foster Township about 2:45 p.m. Saturday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Brett Russel was driving south when he struck a pothole that caused him to lose control and skid for about 20-feet before laying the vehicle over and skidded an additional 60-feet.

The man was wearing eye protection but no helmet or protective gear, police said. He was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment, police said.

Woman to face retail theft charge

HAMBURG - A 34-year-old Weatherly woman was arrested by state police at Hamburg and charged with retail theft after an incident at Cabela's in Tilden Township, Berks County, about 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Kimberly Wheeler will have to answer to the charge in a Berks County district court.

The woman, police said, was caught on security cameras concealing clothing items valued at $556.92 inside her purse.

Students injured near academy

HAMBURG - State police at Hamburg are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred on Mountain View Drive, just west of Academy Road at the entrance to Blue Mountain Academy property, about 9:50 a.m. Sunday.

Police said two students in a Toro Workman all terrain vehicle were struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Mountain View Drive and get to another part of the property to perform morning chores.

After stopping for a few seconds, police said, the driver got out of his 1990's black Chevrolet pickup truck and said he would go for help. The man got back into the truck, left the area and never returned, police said.

The driver of the ATV suffered minor injuries when thrown onto the roadway, police said.

The driver of the pickup truck is described as being white, in his late 20s or early 30s with red hair and a goatee.

Tower City woman injured in crash

MINERSVILLE - A Tower City woman suffered a moderate injury after her vehicle crashed at 7:11 a.m. Sunday on Bunting Street, 344 feet west of Liberty Road, Branch Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Heather M. Hand, 31, was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am north on Bunting Street and left the roadway, struck a cement post in a driveway and a mailbox before becoming airborne and landing in the yard of a residence and hitting several bushes and a small pine tree.

Police said Hand was cited for the accident and transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street to be treated for injuries. Assisting at the scene were Good Intent Hose Company No. 1, Minersville EMS, Tremont EMS, and West Schuylkill ALS.

Truck tractors damaged by rocks

DEER LAKE - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a criminal mischief incident that occurred on Route 61, near the entrance to The Pines, about 3:50 a.m. Thursday.

Police said someone struck two truck tractors with rocks causing damage to both vehicles.
