Money taken

from unlocked car

TOWER CITY - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft from a vehicle that occurred at 1812 E. Grand Ave. in Porter Township between Saturday and Monday.

Police said Kevin Fairburn, Tower City, reported someone entered his unlocked 2000 Ford Focus and took $1,000 in currency that was located under the driver's seat before fleeing the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-593-2000.

Computer hackers

hassle business

WILLIAMSTOWN - An incident of unlawful use of a computer that happened to a borough business between Aug. 31 and Tuesday is being investigated by state police at Lykens.

Police said someone gained control of a computer system owned by Williams Valley Dental by installing a virus, a type of ransom ware that prevented the business from accessing any of the information on the computer.

The thieves then tried to extort money from the business in exchange for un-encrypting the files.

Shen woman faces

retail theft charge

FRACKVILLE - A 25-year-old Shenandoah woman is facing charges of retail theft after an incident at Kmart in the Schuylkill Mall, New Castle Township, about 2 p.m. Wednesday, state police at Frackville said.

Police said loss prevention personnel saw Samantha Shatalsky taking items valued at $74.60 from the shelves and then leaving without paying.

The woman was taken into custody and committed to Schuylkill County Prison on an active warrant for retail theft. She will face a retail theft charge before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, stemming from the Kmart incident, police said.

Tresckow man

cited in crash

McADOO - A 23-year-old Tresckow man escaped injury when the 2012 Jeep Liberty he was driving crashed on Interstate 81 southbound on-ramp from Route 309 in Kline Township at 8:18 a.m. Tuesday.

State police at Frackville said Angelo Pozzessere was driving south when making a left turn, went off the road and struck a guiderail.

Pozzessere was not hurt but will receive a citation as a result of the crash, police said.

Copper taken

from business

PINE GROVE - Copper wiring was stolen from the Lebanon Authority Water Authority building recently.

State police in Schuylkill Haven said someone cut the 3/8 inch multi-strand copper wire from the roof and the walls of the property at Highbridge Dam off Old Forge Road, Pine Grove Township between Sunday and Tuesday.

The wire was attached to lightning rods. Those responsible then fled the scene.
