TOWER CITY - About a dozen people, including parents and players, attended the Williams Valley school board meeting on Aug. 23 to show their support for boy's basketball head coach Dennis Kasper Sr.

One parent, Kim Jansen, was the only one who publicly addressed the school board, telling directors she was there for the coach. The hiring of several coaches was on the board's agenda.

Kasper, and assistant coach Joseph D'Agostino, both of Williamstown, attended the meeting but did not speak.

The board voted 8-1 to approve Kasper as head coach, with director Gail Ruch casting the only dissenting vote. D'Agostino was also approved as assistant coach.

Other coaches approved were Colin Ackerman, Allentown, head wrestling coach, and Carl Klinger, Tower City, girl's soccer assistant coach. Lee Reiser, Tower City, was approved 8-1 as head softball coach, with director John McCready voting "no."

In other business, the board elected John Mika as the board's vice president, a position previously held by Daniel Stroup. Stroup is the current board president.

The board also approved hiring Edward Kubeika, Pottsville, as the new maintenance supervisor for the 2012-13 school year, effective Aug. 27. His salary will be prorated to the number of days worked. Kubeika replaces Robert Ehrhart, who resigned July 29, after working 40 years for the district.

The next school board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
