n McAdoo: The McAdoo Lions Club is sponsoring a trip to Mt. Airy Casino on Oct. 4. The cost is $21 per person with a $25 slot rebate and $10 for food. n Pine Grove: The Pine Grove Historical Society will host a presentation by Gretchen Hardy at 7 p.m. Thursday at American Legion Post 374, 43 S. Tulpehocken St. According to a release, Hardy moved to Lake Wynonah 12 years ago and was curious about the region's history, especially about the lake's namesake. Her years of research resulted in her historical fiction book "Button and Beads - Lenape Princess Wynonah and the Future President." Her slide presentation will explore the role of the American Indian woman through the story of Wynonah, a Lenape Delaware Indian. Women, according to the release, played an important role in the Lenape society. The program is free and open to the public. Hardy's book will be available for purchase. Prior to the program, the society will hold a general membership meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss revision of a bylaw. Members are encouraged to attend.
n Ringtown: The Ringtown Area Library is seeking photo submissions and advertising for the 2013 Ringtown Valley Yesteryears history calendar. The library, according to a release, is interested in any Ringtown photos for consideration, especially photos of homes, businesses, events, gatherings and families. The calendar committee is also seeking dates of Ringtown area events and fundraisers scheduled for 2013 to be included on the calendar. All area churches and organizations are encouraged to contact the library with event dates for 2013. Individuals, businesses and organizations can help with the fundraiser by placing an advertisement in the calendar. Ad rates start at $5 for a one-line patron ad. n Shenandoah: Ateeco Inc., manufacturer of Mrs. T's Pierogies, will hold its seventh annual Mrs. T's Community Picnic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot behind the plant near Herald Road. A limited amount of free tickets are still available. The event will be held rain or shine and will feature food, entertainment and family activities. Pierogies, hamburgers, hot dogs, sodas, kettle corn, sno-cones, bingo, music by RC, prizes, games and activities for children are on the agenda. New this year will be the Mrs. T's Photo Booth, an old-style boardwalk/fair photo booth with photos taken in black and white or color. The photo can be sent electronically to an email address. Each person entering will receive a ticket for a free photo. The picnic is free, but a ticket is necessary for admission. The public may obtain tickets by visiting one of the following Shenandoah businesses: Betty Ann Bugden's Total Image Design and Hair Replacement Salon, 30 S.
