Pottsville police recovered a dead body in the Little Schuylkill River, near Route 61 and Mauch Chunk Street, about 2:15 p.m. Saturday.
Pottsville police Chief Joseph H. Murton V said the body was discovered by someone walking along the river.
The identity of the male was not known Saturday and the investigation is continuing through city police detectives.
Murton said at the scene that the death did not appear to be suspicious.
Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan said a virtual autopsy of the body was scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Saturday. He said the name of the male will not be released to the public until a family member identifies the body today.
The Pottsville Fire Department assisted in the recovery of the body from the river behind the Route 61 Car Wash.
