n Frackville: The Frackville council of the Knights of Columbus will hold its monthly Hogan Happy Hoagie sale on Oct. 25. Hoagies are available in many varieties and can be ordered for pick only by calling Tom Malloy at 570-874-1843 or Grand Knight John Costa 570-773-0627. The council will hold an open house at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church Hall, Oak Street. Any Catholic man 18 or older is invited to an evening of socialization, camaraderie and information sharing, according to a council release. Light refreshments will be served.

n Frackville: Sears and Kmart at the Schuylkill Mall are hosting Safety Weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday. The event will provide educational demonstrations and displays about safety free to the public. Geisinger's Life Flight and Lehigh Valley's MedEvac helicopters will be on hand as well as local fire companies with their firetrucks and smokehouse demonstrations to show how to exit a burning building. The Jaws of Life tool will be used to show how firefighters cut cars to extricate drivers and passengers. There will also be an American Red Cross blood drive, the crash test dummies, information on ATV safety and animal safety. The demonstration and activities will be in the parking lot areas between Kmart Lawn and Garden and Sears Men's Department. Some participants will set up inside the Kmart bus stop wing. Everyone is welcome.

n Gordon: The borough and the Friends of Gordon - FOG - committee have announced that the Community Park Baseball/Softball Field presentation recognizing Wal-Mart Distribution Center No. 7030 will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The FOG Pumpkin Glow Night will begin at 5 p.m. following the presentation.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy City Woman's Club will hold its October Tea at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Mahanoy City Elks Lodge 695, East Centre Street. It will be a bring-your-own-tea-cup event. The music program will be provided by Eileen Miser. For tickets or more information, call Janet at 570-773-3202.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy Area chili cook-off, craft fair and Chinese auction will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Mahanoy Area Middle School gymnasium. Admission is $2, which will allow tasting of the chili from all the contestants and vote for favorite. There will be more than 20 craft vendors and many gift cards and baskets for the auction. All proceeds will benefit Mahanoy Area athletic programs.

n Shenandoah: A program called Living a Healthy Life, for people with chronic conditions such as arthritis, COPD, heart disease or diabetes, is on tap at the Shenandoah Senior Community Resource Center, 116 N. Main St. The free program will include six weeks of sessions from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29, Dec. 6 and 13 in the center. Advance registration is required by calling 570-624-3017. Class size will be limited, according to a press release. Objectives are to improve healthful behavior, improve health status and help reduce hospital stays. The center is located in the Anthony P. Damato American Legion "Medal of Honor" Post 792 building. The resource center are sponsored by Diakon Lutheran Social Services.

n Tower City: The Mahoney Brothers will present "Jukebox Heroes Live!" at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at Williams Valley High School, 10330 Route 209. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Williams Valley Physical Fitness Club and the Williams Valley High School musical. In addition to the Mahoney Brothers, local talent and current Williams Valley student Brooke Unger will open the concert. She has performed at several county fairs, talent events and sang the national anthem for the Reading Phillies and York Revolution. She also has a CD titled "Songs of the Season," which is due to be released this month. The Mahoney Brothers will perform favorites from The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, the Beach Boys, Neil Diamond and others, all in full costume. Tickets for the concert can be purchased in advance by calling Williams Valley High School at 717-647-2167, ext. 1243 or 1224. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students.
