Senior VP

Port Carbon native Susan Doran Finlayson, Ph.D., as been named senior vice president of operations for Mercy Medical Center, one of the top 100 hospitals in the U.S. and recognized nationally for women's health care.

Doran Finlayson had previously served as senior vice president of patient care at Mercy for the past 10 years. In her new position, she will oversee the operations of numerous clinical and nonclinical departments, including inpatient and outpatient surgical services, critical care, orthopedics, oncology, emergency services, medical/surgical areas, as well as environmental services, social work, food/nutrition services, education and research, transportation, etc.

Prior to joining Mercy in 2002, Doran Finlayson had held various positions, including senior manager at Cap Gemeni Ernst & Young, and as director of medical/surgical nursing at the University of Pittsburgh, Shady Side Hospital in Pennsylvania.

A 1982 graduate of Widener University with a degree in nursing, Doran Finlayson earned her master's in adult health and illness in 1986 at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and her doctorate of nursing practice from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, in 2009.

Doran Finlayson is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, American Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau. She is also a frequent lecturer on leadership development and strategic planning, most recently speaking before the Organization of Nurse Executives national conference.

She resides in Annapolis, Md., with her family. A daughter of James and Virginia Doran, Port Carbon, and a 1977 graduate of Pottsville Area High School.
