n Ashland: In a release, Frank Rice, a retired police sergeant with the Capitol Police and a borough resident, said anyone interested in establishing a crime watch in the borough is encouraged to call police Chief Adam J. Bernodin Jr. or Mayor Dennis Kane. If enough citizens are interested, Rice said, meetings and more information will result. He said Kane can be reached at 570-875-0837 and Bernodin at 570-875-2600. In his release, Rice said he spoke with Ashland council members who agreed a crime watch was a good idea.

n Brandonville: The Citizens Fire Company is holding its annual fund drive through September. According to firefighters, it is the company's major fundraiser and residents are asked to support the all-volunteer company in its efforts to provide year-round emergency services to those in need. Any resident who did not receive a fund drive flier should call 570-889-5504 or 570-889-5736 to have one sent.

n Minersville: The Minersville Public Library recently acknowledged the following memorials: For Wanda O'Brien from Francis and JoAnn Murphy; for John Barnetsky Sr. from Ellen Valent; for Stella Jeronski from Al and Barb Munster; for Donald Duffy from Greg and Yolie Volkay; for Thomas Parry from Greg and Yolie Volkay; for Karleen Kumpaitis from Nancy Walaitis.

n Nuremberg: The Nuremberg Reading Center has starting a fall read-to-me program from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays for children ages 3 to 5. Participants will enjoy stories, crafts, games and treats. Anyone interested should stop by the reading center or call 570-384-4101.

n Pottsville: The Pottsville Free Public Library is joining libraries across the state Monday to participate in "SnapshotPA Day: A Day in the Life of Pennsylvania Libraries." The effort is aimed at capturing information about library usage and services. Pictures taken will be added to those of other libraries across the state to raise awareness of available programs and services. n Pottsville: Make A Difference Day, a national day of giving, will be held Oct. 27 throughout Schuylkill County. In a release, Janice Johnston, director of Community Volunteers in Action, 420 N. Centre St., said that although the event is on a Saturday, projects taking place around that day will be accepted. For this year, Schuylkill's 17th, the theme reflects the giving nature of local residents - because Schuylkill County Cares. Residents, Johnston said, are encouraged to "join thousands of their neighbors to help improve the quality of life in our communities. No project is too small and every effort helps someone." People or groups wanting to participate but struggling to find an idea may contact Community Volunteers in Action for a wish list of project ideas submitted by organizations in need. - Ringtown: Borough trick-or- treat night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.

n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Rotary Club will sponsor a pet inoculation against rabies, administered by Brookside Animal Hospital, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rescue Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Main and Centre streets. The fee is $10 per shot. Other inoculations will be available for an extra fee. Everyone is welcome. All pets must be leashed and kept under control by owners.

n Weston: Emmanuel Lutheran Church will sponsor a blood drive at the Nuremberg-Weston Firehall, 456 Hazle St., from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday.
