The state Office of the Attorney General served a search warrant Tuesday morning at a physician's office in Pottsville, officials said Wednesday.

Agents were at the 619 Mahantongo St. business of Dr. Rahman Khan, also known as Berks Psychiatry.

Before being in Pottsville, agents served similar warrants at Berks Psychiatry, 146 S. Fifth St., Reading, according to John T. Adams, Berks County district attorney.

Nils Frederickson, a spokesman with the attorney general's office, confirmed that agents were in Schuylkill County on Tuesday but offered no other information.

"We cannot comment beyond that at this time," Frederickson said.

Adams said the search warrants are sealed and that even he did not know the contents of the documents.

The warrants, however, are part of an ongoing investigation, Adams said.

Khan opened his Pottsville office in February.

At that time, Khan said he wanted to open a Schuylkill office because there is sometimes a four-month waiting period for patients who need to see a psychiatrist in the county.

"We're really excited about opening our Pottsville office because Pottsville has a huge need for mental health care, especially for the Medicare and Medicaid population," Khan said in February. "I don't think there has been good enough service."

According to a Repubican-Herald story announcing the opening of the Pottsville office, Khan said because of the waiting period, more and more patients are being diverted to Berks and other counties. His plan was for the office in Schuylkill County to make is so people wouldn't have to travel.

Kahn could not be reached for comment.
