SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A 30-minute documentary on the borough of Schuylkill Haven will air on Channel 7 this year.
"It's going to be very interesting," said Neil Rodino, a sales consultant with Sam-Son Productions, Hazleton, the company in charge of the project.
The borough council approved the $2,000 expenditure last month.
"I think it's a good thing for Schuylkill Haven," council President Marlin Berger Jr. said by phone Tuesday.
Berger said he was interviewed for about 10 minutes for the upcoming show.
Rodino said filming and interviewing for the documentary started about two weeks ago and might finish next week.
Numerous pictures of historical sights, interviews with council members and others from the community have been part of the project so far, he said.
The documentary will "probably air in about three weeks," he said.
Economic Development Director Carl Berger said production will not only highlight the history of the borough but also "what it has to offer and things that are happening in the borough."
Carl Berger said it will air 25 different occasions within 30 days. Also, DVDs - 100 in all - will be available for purchase for $20 at either Borough Hall or the economic development office, he said.
Carl Berger said locations in the borough have yet to be finalized; however, Bubeck Park, the Walk-In-Shoe Co., the area of the former Schuylkill Canal and other historical locations could be part of the production.
Showcasing the economic development efforts is important, Carl Berger said.
"We want to show the Walk-In-Shoe Co.," he said, showing how it was a vacant building and now is home to several uses including the Schuylkill Haven Police Department.
"It's kind of like a tool for the borough," Rodino said.
