Man, woman

die in crash

FREDERICKSBURG - A Hamburg woman and Lebanon man were killed in a one- vehicle crash at 3:57 p.m. Saturday on Allentown Boulevard at Pine Grove Road in Bethel Township, Lebanon County.

State police at Jonestown said the crash occurred as a 2003 Ford Explorer hauling a utility trailer, driven by Dolores Sweitzer, 64, of Hamburg, with passenger James Zipp, 62, of Lebanon, was traveling west on Route 22 in the right lane.

The vehicle exited the roadway on the north side of Route 22, traveled through a ditch, down a grade and impacted a concrete bridge abutment, police said.

It came to rest against the concrete bridge abutment, police said.

Sweitzer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lebanon County Coroner, police said.

Zipp was transported to Hershey Medical Center and was pronounced dead at Hershey Medical Center, police said.

The next of kin for both were noticed by state police.

Troop L CARS Unit, several members from Jonestown state police, as well as First Aid and Safety Patrol, Life Lion and Fredericksburg Fire Department assisted at the scene, police said.

2 injured

in wreck

RAVINE - Two people suffered minor injuries when the vehicle they were in crashed in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81, at mile marker 105.7 in Tremont Township about 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

State police at Jonestown said Stewart Dean, 23, of Hegins, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo south when he lost control of the car while trying to pass a tractor-trailer.

The car began to turn counter clockwise, went off the road and into the grass where it slid down a small embankment and flipped onto its side, polcie said.

Police said the car continued to slide and struck several trees before coming to a stop on its side.

Dean, who police said will be cited for failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic, and his passenger, Crysalyne Galvez, 21, of Selingsgrove, were not hurt.

Tremont EMS assisted at the scene and took both people to Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, for treatment.

Tamaqua woman

escapes injury

KASKA - A 23-year-old Tamaqua woman escaped injury when the 2004 Volkswagen Golf she was driving crashed on Tumbling Run Road, about a mile west of Mountain Road in Blythe Township, about 11:25 p.m. Thursday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Bryanna Harvey was driving east when she lost control of her car on the wet highway, went off the road and hit a drainage ditch and then several trees head on before coming to a stop.

Harvey was not hurt, but police said her vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene.

Kaska firefighters and fire police and Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS assisted at the scene, police said adding that Blythe Township Police were not on duty at the time.
