4 suffer injuries

in 2-car crash

DONALDSON - Four people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 3:47 p.m. Friday on West Center Street in Frailey Township, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Wayne A. Kimmel Sr., 47, of Donaldson, with passenger Clair W. Kimmel, 19, of Donaldson, was traveling north on Route 125 and a 1992 Jeep Comanche driven by Ryan J. Donmoyer, 34, of Donaldson, with a 15-year-old passenger was traveling south on Route 125. For unknown reasons, Kimmel's vehicle traveled into the southbound lane and collided with Donmoyer's vehicle, police said.

After impact, Donmoyer's vehicle traveled clockwise southwest and came to rest facing southwest along the west berm. Kimmel's vehicle traveled clockwise northwest and came to rest facing northwest along the southbound lane of travel and the west berm, police said.

All were transported by Tremont EMS to be treated for minor injuries at either Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, or Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, police said. Assisting on the scene were Medevac 7, Life Flight 1, Penn Star 4, Tremont EMS, West Schuylkill Advanced Life Support, Donaldson Fire Company and fire police, police said.

The roadway was closed for about two hours during the investigation and traffic was detoured around the scene, police said.

Woman escapes

injury in crash

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - A Girardville woman escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash at 1:20 p.m. Friday on Route 183 near Acorn Lane in Wayne Township, police said.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Megan L. Weand, 25, of Girardville, was traveling north on Route 183 and failed to follow a curve in the roadway. The vehicle began to rotate counterclockwise and traveled into the oncoming southbound travel lanes, police said.

Police said the vehicle crossed both southbound lanes sideways, traveled about four feet off the roadway and struck a guiderail with its front end. After impact, the vehicle continued to rotate along the guiderail and came to rest with its bumper against the guide rail, police said.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Weand was not injured but faces charges in connection with the crash, police said.

CRESSONA - State police at Schuylkill Haven investigated a harassment incident that occurred at 8 p.m. Saturday at 60 Schuylkill St.

Police said Marisol Viera, 41, of Cressona, and her son, Pedro Louis Carmenate, 19, of Cressona, got into an argument when Viera lunged at Carmenate. Police said Carmenate tried to restrain Viera and, during the course of the altercation, was scratched repeatedly on the neck and thrown into a wall.

Police said Viera fled to Pottsville prior to the arrival of police.

DUI checkpoints

The North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce announced that sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols will be conducted today through Monday on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 443, 895, 125,25, 924 and 54.

Travelers are reminded to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver or to call, toll-free, 888-UNDER21 to report underage drinking.

Items stolen

from 2 homes

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police are investigating two recent burglaries in their coverage area.

Police said one of the burglaries occurred at a home on South Street in Hometown where rings and jewelry were stolen, and the other occurred on Zellner Road where a red Honda generator, a portable tool kit and a leaf blower were stolen.

Hazleton man

faces charges

HOMETOWN - A Hazleton man is facing charges by Rush Township police after a vehicle stop on Claremont Avenue about 4:15 p.m. Oct. 20.

Police said Jacob Marion will have to appear before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, on charges of possession of marijuana.

Police said Marion was a passenger in a car stopped for a violation and found to be in possession of marijuana.

Haven men

charged after fight

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Two Schuylkill Haven area men will be charged by state police at Schuylkill Haven after an incident at Sammy's Mobile Home Park in North Manheim Township.

Police said Kevin D. Mohl, 25, will be charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, criminal mischief and related offenses while Christopher M. Pate, 33, will be charged with simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment, theft and related offenses.

Both men will have to appear before Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg.

Police said Pate removed a tire from a vehicle owned by Michael Kirkland, Suedberg, and left a note to Kirkland to come to his house to discuss money allegedly owed to him.

Mohl then went to use Kirkland's car, found the note and missing tire and drove his truck into Pate's Chevrolet Blazer, pushing it into a car trailer owned by Reinaldo Serrano, 59, of Schuylkill Haven.

Police said Mohl then parked his truck at his home, where Pate ran up to him. Mohl got out of his truck with an axe and told Pate he was going to get a baseball bat.

Mohl drove away, parked his truck at a nearby service station and walked back to the scene and began arguing with Pate, police said.

A fight ensued with Pate punching Mohl in the face, knocking out a tooth, police said.

Truck stolen

from auto dealer

PINE GROVE - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft of a vehicle at Pine Grove Auto Sales in Pine Grove Township between 3:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 8 a.m. Sunday.

Police said someone stole a green and gray 1997 Ford F-250 extended cab pickup truck with a V-8 Power Stroke diesel engine.

LYKENS - A 56-year-old Klingerstown man is facing charges by state police at Lykens after a DUI crash on Klinger Road, just south of Hoy Road in Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, between noon and 1 p.m. Oct. 12.

Police said John T. Long will have to answer before Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Margerum, Elizabethville, on charges of DUI, registration and Certificate of Title required, driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, immediate notice of accident to police, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and restraint system violations.

Police said Long was driving his 1984 Chevrolet K3 pickup truck in the area when he crashed and then fled the scene.

HEGINS - Hegins Township police investigated a one-vehicle crash in the 1400 block of East Main Street about 1:50 p.m. Oct. 16.

Police said Carol Herb, 57, of Valley View, was driving a sport utility vehicle west when she struck a cement wall on the north berm of the road, continued and hit two steel pipes, a drainage culvert, landscape timber and a utility pole.

Main Street was closed for about seven hours while crews repaired the utility pole and electrical service, police said, adding that Hegins Township Fire Police assisted with traffic control.

hurt in crash

HEGINS - A one-vehicle crash on South Goodspring Road in Hegins Township about 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16 was investigated by Hegins Township police.

Police said Jamie Nagle, 35, of Hegins, was driving south when he lost control of his vehicle on a left curve, causing it to go off the road and hit and shear a utility pole.

The vehicle then rolled onto its roof and came to a stop in the southbound lane of the road, police said.

Nagle was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, police said, adding that the road was closed for about an hour and that Hegins Township EMS, firefighters and fire police assisted at the scene.

Shenandoah man

SHENANDOAH - Shenandoah police cited a 24-year-old borough man for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after he allegedly trespassed at the residence of Adrienne Jefferis, 189 Weston Place, at 8:50 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Jeremy Colosimo, 159 Weston Place, thought there was a party at the residence and just walked right into the home, appearing to be highly intoxicated.

2 teenagers

MAR LIN - State police at Schuylkill Haven responded two incidents Wednesday morning at Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 in Norwegian Township.

In the first incident, an 18-year-old Pottsville woman was cited for disorderly conduct about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Caitlin Rich will have to answer to the charge in district court.

According to police, Rich repeatedly used loud profanities and refused to leave a classroom, ultimately creating an offensive condition for the rest of the class.

About the same time, police said they were called for an aggravated assault incident and learned a 14-year-old Williamstown girl pushed, shoved and kicked Leanne Thomas, 27, of Lehighton, while making threats to also punch her in the face.

Police said felony assault charges against the teenager will be filed in district court.

Money stolen

from wallet

TREMONT - A theft at 31 W. Main St. about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday is being investigated by state police at Schuylkill Haven.

Police said two people spent the evening Monday with Victoria M. Morgan, Tremont, and the following day when the woman was in the bathroom, one of the people removed $30 from her wallet.

The two then told the woman they had to leave and fled the area heading toward Newtown on Route 209, police said.

Tools stolen

TOWER CITY - State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a theft from a vehicle at 2 Beagle Road in Porter Township between 8 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said Anthony M. Snyder, Tower City, reported someone removed several hand and power tools from his utility truck while it was parked in his driveway and fled.

Woman not hurt

when car hits deer

PINE GROVE - A 25-year-old Mount Carmel woman escaped injury when the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo she was driving hit a deer in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 in Pine Grove Township about 1 a.m. Thursday.

State police at Jonestown said Jennifer Mast was driving north in the right lane when a deer entered the road. The woman was unable to avoid the deer and struck the animal, after which she came to a stop facing north partially in the right lane of the highway, police said.

Tower City man

faces charges

SHERIDAN - A 26-year-old Tower City man is facing charges of DUI and other offenses after a crash on Goldmine Road in Cold Spring Township, Lebanon Count, about 3:50 a.m. Saturday.

Police said William Drum was driving a 2003 Lincoln LS north in the area of S&S Railroad when he lost control while trying to follow a sharp right curve in the roadway.

The man's vehicle spun counterclockwise across the northbound lane and struck a steep rock embankment, continued north along the embankment and came to a stop completely blocking the northbound lane, police said.

Drum was not injured but was found to be under the influence, police said, adding that Sheridan firefighters assisted at the scene.

Man swerves

to avoid deer

ORWIGSBURG - A 43-year-old New Ringgold man escaped injury when the 2005 Dodge Caravan he was driving crashed on Second Mountain Road, just east of Ranch Road in North Manheim Township, at 9:12 a.m. Thursday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said David Selsman was driving east approaching a downhill right curve when a deer entered the road and into his path.

The man swerved to avoid the animal but went off the road and struck a culvert, police said.

Orwigsburg firefighters and fire police and Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS assisted at the scene.

Cressona yard

CRESSONA - A theft at 47 Chestnut St. between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 4:45 p.m. Thursday is being investigated by state police at Schuylkill Haven.

Police said David Keating reported someone stole an archery block target from his yard.
