- Branchdale: Trash collection in Reilly Township for today has been postponed to Thursday. Trick or treat night has been moved to 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

n Jim Thorpe: The Jim Thorpe Fire Department is again offering borough residents free smoke detectors for their homes. People interested should contact Bill Diehm, fire chief, at 570-325-3890, or any other fire department. Commercial businesses are not eligible for the smoke detectors.

n Pottsville: Autum Umberger of the Schuylkill County veterans trip organization, recently addressed the Pottsville Rotary Club about her group. The organization, she said, is a group of volunteers who sponsor a free bus trip for veterans to the nation's war memorials in Washington D.C. The program was launched in 2008 by George Ackley and featured one bus of veterans. Last June, the organization sponsored four full buses of veterans, Umberger said. The organization relies on fundraisers as well as donations from people and businesses in the county to sponsor the trips. Veterans from any era can attend for free and the trips usually include breakfast, a bag lunch and a sit-down dinner. Guests are welcome but are asked to pay their own way. The organization currently is run by six volunteers. The next trip is planned for September 2013. Rotarian Pete Pope said he participated in one of the trips and commented that the organization is "wonderful," according to the Rotary bulletin. Assistant Rotary district Governor Gary Smeltz of the Hegins Rotary was a guest at the Pottsville meeting. The club's Kauffman chicken barbecue is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at the parking lot of Boyer's Market, Pottsville. Everyone is welcome.

- Pottsville: First United Methodist Church, 330 W. Market St., will host a Christmas fair titled "Christmas Around The World" from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Hot dogs, macaroni and cheese and other goodies will be available. There will be a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Homemade candy, cookies, crafts and other food will be available for purchase. A white reindeer table will also feature sale items. On Monday, the luncheon will include a choice of chicken salad or barbecue plus sides. The cost for lunch is $8. There will also be homemade candy, cookies, crafts and other food available. For more information, call 570-622-8140.

n Orwigsburg: Pottsville native John Kline IV will perform a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. A graduate of Pottsville Area High School, Kline is a senior at West Chester University majoring in piano performance. He began his study of music at age 5 under the instruction of Julia Askernia and continued with her until his graduation from high school. During his college years, John competed in several competitions. He won third prize in the Young Artist Concerto competition in New Orleans, La., in 2011 and won The Young Classical Virtuoso of Tomorrow competition. He has performed at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and in Guiyang, China. The program, a benefit performance for the Anthracite Philharmonic, will include the works of Beethoven, Bach, Ravel, and Chopin, according to a press release. . Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students. All tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, call 570-628-5158.

n Schuylkill Haven: Trick-or-treat night in the borough has been moved from tonight to 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

n Shenandoah: Trinity Academy in the Father Walter J. Ciszek Education Center, Cherry and Chestnut streets, will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast with a focus on Veterans Day beginning at 8 a.m. Nov. 11 at the school. The menu will include eggs, potatoes, toast, bacon, sausage, pancakes and French toast. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12. Veterans will be able to enjoy the breakfast for $4. Trinity students will provide table service for the event. Everyone is welcome. All proceeds will benefit the school.

n Shenandoah: A special Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 in Annunciation BVM Roman Catholic Church. November is the Month of the Holy Souls and families who lost a loved one in the past year are invited to bring a photograph, no larger than 8 by 10 inches, in a standing frame to be placed at a table in front of the church during the Mass. People planning to display a photo are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of time to allow for setup. A reception will follow in the Trinity Academy school hall. Those planning to attend are asked to call either of the offices of parishes at 570-462-1968 or 570-462-1916.
