The New Castle Township supervisors will hold a public hearing today for the transfer of a liquor license to the Schuylkill Mall Theatres so patrons can enjoy an alcoholic drink.

The hearing, scheduled for 6 p.m., is at the township office, 248-250 Broad St., Saint Clair. Supervisors will vote on the transfer for the retail restaurant liquor license after the hearing, according to a public notice.

If approved, the license would come from the estate of Susan J. Drummer and Joseph J. Umbenhauer. The trade name of the business is Umpy's Corner, based in Schuylkill Haven. Carl Berger, economic development director for the borough, said the business closed several years ago. The state Liquor Control Board must approve the transfer. An email to the PLCB was not returned Wednesday.

Mark Clement, manager of the theater, declined comment Wednesday.

Schuylkill Mall manager Elaine Maneval was not available for comment.

Plans for the new theater include a new name - The Pearl Stadium 8 - four additional theaters, stadium seating, digital projection and sound. Four of the screens will be 3-D. Movie-goers can also experience motion technology simulating what is on a screen for an extra charge.

The bar will have beer, wine and hard liquor available, Clement said previously. Adjoining the bar, which will seat up to 50 people, will be a VIP-over 21 auditorium. Food will also be available at the bar. Clement previously called the bar an "upscale lounge."

Work at the mall started earlier this summer. A Facebook post said work at the site could be finished by Dec. 7.
