There will be three blood drives this week. The Tamaqua Salvation Army will be the site Wednesday, the Minersville Good Shepherd Building on Thursday and the Fairlane Village Mall Friday. Lessie's Garden is hosting a Christmas open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. Hillside SPCA is in need of newspapers and used, but clean, blankets and towels. Rather than throw out that torn blanket or stained towel, why not donate it to an animal looking for fuzzy bedding?

There are only two Schuylkill on the Move hikes left in 2012. Mahanoy Plane Walk will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday. This challenging three-mile trek starts at the Frackville Library then makes its way to the plane ruins and down the steep ruin to a tunnel. Dress for conditions and weather.
