Car carrier

catches fire

PINE GROVE - A trailer and four vehicles caught fire about 5:30 a.m. Friday in Pine Grove.

State police at Jonestown said the accident occurred on Interstate 81 as the driver of the trailer equipped with a car carrier trailer was driving south.

Police said the driver heard a noise and noticed sparks shooting from the trailer.

The driver attempted to put the fire out. Unable to do so, he removed a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck off the trailer, police said.

The Lickdale Fire Company and Suedberg Fire Company responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

The trailer was towed from the scene, police said.

2 injured

in accident

DAUPHIN - Two people from Lykens suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital after a car accident at 4:20 p.m. Saturday.

State police at Lykens said Leonard Bower, 70, fell asleep while driving southbound on Route 209 and crossed over the northbound lane.

The 2008 Dodge Caravan hit a ditch, rolled over, stuck a wooden mailbox post and rolled two more times, finally stopping on the driver's side, police said.

Bower and his passenger, Judith Bower, 73, were both wearing seat belts, police said.

Bower was charged with careless driving. The Williamstown EMS, Medic 6, Williamstown Fire Company and Wisconisco Fire Company responded.

Hamburg woman

HAMBURG - A 30-year-old Hamburg woman was arrested after allegedly driving under the influence on at 1:37 a.m. Sunday at at Route 61 and Interstate 78 in Tilden Township, Berks County.

State police at Hamburg said Jessica Reber, Hamburg, was driving a 2010, Hyundai Genesis when they stopped her for speeding and window tint violations.

Police alleged she was under the influence. Charges will be filed at Magisterial District Judge Kim L. Bagenstose's office, Hamburg, police said.
