n Mahanoy City: Lois M. Griffiths of the Mahanoy City Visiting Nurse Association recently provided a list of memorial contributions the VNA has received, including the following: For Rose Chesco from Mr. and Mrs. B. Kielbasa, Grace Long; for Richard Jakubac from the Scully children, Emma DeAngelo; for Eleanor O'Hazza from Harold O'Hazza; for Evan Owens from Rose Demko; for Eileen Gnall from Doretta, Jay and Liz Jones, Teresa Boyle.

n Pottsville: Christkindlmarkt - the fourth annual German Christmas Market - presented by the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, Schuylkill County's VISION and the Block of Art, is set for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 at 1440 Mahantongo St. There will be live greens, wreaths and garland, pottery, jewelry, cards, silk jackets and tops, scarves, gingerbread houses, candles, paintings, stained glass, children's books and signings. People are invited to shop at the decorated Yuengling Mansion and its grounds. The event, organizers said in a flier, has been expanded into the formal gardens and carriage house. Patrons will be able to sip hot chocolate as they tour the gardens and shop. Everyone is welcome.

n Shenandoah: Schuylkill County Knights of Columbus councils from Pottsville, Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, Frackville, Saint Clair and Tamaqua will deliver turkey dinners complete with turkey, filling, yams, gravy, vegetable, cranberry sauce, bread, dessert and drink to all county residents in need of a meal for Thanksgiving Day. People in need of a meal, or who know of someone in need of a meal, are asked to call 570-292-2964, 570-773-0627 or 570-292-2963 and leave name, address (including apartment number) town, phone number and number of meals needed plus any other information important for the caller or the person for whom the call is being made. People may also contact the knights via email at sktkurtek2010@hotmail.com for trickyrylee@hotmail.com. The only requirement for the meal is that the person be home. Anyone wanting to help out for a few hours on the week of Thanksgiving Day by doing some preparation work or by delivering or serving up some of the meals on Thanksgiving morning is ask to call 570-628-3333 and leave a message, including phone number, and someone will call back.

n Shenandoah: A film crew from Temple University has been documenting progress made in the effort to refurbish the former J.W. Cooper High School building, White and Lloyd streets, into a community center and regional hub for business, recreation, sports, entertainment/performances, arts/crafts, community outreach and even anxiety relief via an atrium, according to building owner Kent Steinmetz. The crew is focusing on the idea of restoring an older building that otherwise likely would have been demolished, Steinmetz said via email. "It's going to be a very positive film showcasing Shenandoah's determination to survive economically," he said.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center is seeking volunteers to serve on its board of directors. According to a release, the center has a variety of activities planned for November, including celebrating Thanksgiving on Wednesday. Other planned activities include; Thursday and Nov. 19, visits from Child Development participants; Nov. 19, craft day; Nov. 26, trip to Dollar Store; Nov. 30, visit from the St. Jerome Roman Catholic School kindergarten class. In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service. Both require advance notice. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily. The center is open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Anyone interested in obtaining more information about the center or its services should call 570-668-6577 or visit during regular aforementioned hours.
