MAHANOY CITY - A Mahanoy City man is facing charges of DUI and other offenses after his vehicle struck two borough residents' parked vehicles in the 300 block of West Centre Street early Wednesday morning.
Borough police said Joseph R. Stevens Jr., 25 Coles St., was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer north on Catawissa Street when he made a left turn onto West Centre Street, veered to the right and ran into the back of a parked 1997 Chevrolet Venture van owned by Walter B. Schenkel, 309 W. Centre St.
The Schenkel van was pushed forward into a parked 2002 Ford Windstar van owned by Paul Long, 313 W. Centre St., police said.
Police said when officers approached the Stevens vehicle, the man was still inside, groggy and falling asleep. When asked if he had been drinking alcohol, police said the man replied that he had been drinking and that he drank too much.
Police said Stevens was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood alcohol test as well as treatment of minor injuries he suffered in the crash.
Charges against Stevens are pending the results of the blood test, police said.
Mahanoy City firefighters and EMS assisted at the scene.
