The Gillingham Board of Trustees announced Thursday night that it will be ending its contract for school lunches.
A special meeting was held at noon Wednesday to discuss the issue.
"An issue arose with our lunch contractor and we have to release him from the contract," said Lori Quinn, vice president of Gillingham's board of trustees and director of public relations and marketing. "There's three reports online that will be pertinent to the decision that are publicly available."
The trustees offered no other information on the contract as of press time late Thursday.
During the finance report, Michelle Delgado of Charter Choices, an independent educational consulting and advisory firm that offers back-office and administrative support to charter schools, announced that the charter school had paid down its line of credit.
"You owe nothing on your line of credit," Delgado said. "It's still open in case we need it for (the) future, but I can't foresee you guys needing to tap into it anytime soon. So, that is great news."
The board approved a line of credit for $150,000 from Meridian Bank at the September 2011 monthly meeting.
Gillingham was using the funds to pay bills since not all school districts have been paying the charter school directly and there is a 90-day lag for funds to be transferred from the state Department of Education.
