Students of the Month, Jan. 22, 2012

Mahanoy Middle

Laura Bisco and Lenny Dulsky were chosen as students of the month for November by the faculty at Mahanoy Area Middle School. The program is sponsored by the Mahanoy City Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 695, and nominees are judged on the basis of multiple achievements, character, leadership, citizenship and scholastic aptitude.

Laura, a distinguished honor student, is involved in Theatre Arts, National Junior Honor Society, seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball, intramural basketball and track and field. She is also the eighth-grade class treasurer.

Her volunteer work includes coaching Biddy Basketball and being a church helper.

A daughter of Scott and Susan Bisco, Barnesville, Laura is a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Barnesville. She plans to attend college

Lenny, an honor student, is eighth-grade class president, National Junior Honor Society treasurer and seventh- and eighth-grade football captain. He is also a member of Theatre Arts, track and field and junior high wrestling.

His volunteer work includes Relay for Life, Meals on Wheels and Good America Hose Company bazaar.

Lenny is a son of Thomas and Michele Dulsky, Mahanoy City, and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Mahanoy City, where he is an altar server. He plans to attend college.

Pine Grove Area

Audrie Wolfe and Jeff Bates were named seniors of the month for December at Pine Grove Area High School.

Audrie is enrolled in the post-secondary curriculum and her future plans are to attend McCann School of Business & Technology to major in early childhood education. At school, she is a member of the band front and chorus and is FFA president.

Audrie is a member of Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, where she is active with the youth club and helps with children's church and Vacation Bible School. She has gone on mission trips to Idaho and New York.

Audrie is a member of South Schuylkill 4-H Dairy Club and is currently a Diary Ambassador for Schuylkill County. She is employed by Mar-Am Dairy Farm, which her family owns and operates.

She is a daughter of Mark and Amy Wolfe, Pine Grove.

Jeff is enrolled in the college prep/advanced placement curriculum and his future plans are to attend Lebanon Valley College, Annville, and obtain a degree in music education. He is involved in the marching, concert and jazz bands and is band president. He is also a member of the concert choir, Cardinal Spotlight Theatre, student council, Future Business Leaders of America, SADD, soccer, JROTC, mock trial, dance and art clubs, Quiz Bowl, school newspaper and Odyssey of the Mind.

Jeff is a class officer and participated in the Schuylkill County Youth Conference.

In the community, Jeff is involved with CEFE youth group soup kitchen in Reading and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He works at R&J Trophies.

He is a son of Leroy and Maike Bates, Pine Grove.
