Man charged with

robbing diner

HOMETOWN - A 29-year-old Tamaqua man was arrested by Rush Township police in conjunction with a Wednesday burglary at Beacon Diner.

Police said Ronald W. Musselman is charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespass and misdemeanor offenses of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on unrelated charges from Tamaqua police and will be arraigned on the Rush Township charges by Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police charged Musselman with the 9:24 p.m. burglary at the restaurant at routes 54 and 309 that netted him $221.

Man crashes car,

flees scene

REEDSVILLE - A 57-year-old Auburn man escaped injury when the 1997 Pontiac Grand Am he was driving crashed on Fair Road, just east of Story Lane in South Manheim Township, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Harold Dietrich was driving east on Fair Road, Route 895, when he went off the road and onto the shoulder, where his car continued for about 310 feet through a wooded area.

The car came to a stop in the wooded area after hitting a tree and Dietrich fled the scene before police arrived.

The man will be cited as a result of the crash, police said.

No one hurt in

Route 901 crash

MAR LIN - No one was injured in a four-vehicle crash at routes 901 and 209 at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred as Vincent Gargano, 75, of Saint Clair, was driving a 2011 Ford Ranger west on Route 901 when he tried to turn left onto Route 209 and drove into the path of a 1998 Buick Regal that was being driven east on Route 901 by Matthew Meyers, 25, of Pottsville.

After impact, Gargano's truck spun clockwise and struck a 2008 Dodge Springer 3500 driven by Julian Yupcavage, 69, of Pottsville, which was stopped at a stop sign on Route 209 at the intersection.

A fourth vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Journey driven by James Hooks, 37, of Highspire, was damaged when it was struck by debris from the initial crash, police said.

Gargano will be cited for vehicles turning left, police said. Mar Lin and Llewellyn firefighters and Minersville and Branch-Reilly police assisted at the scene.

Teen swerves

to avoid cat

REEDSVILLE - A 17-year-old Pottsville boy will be cited for failing to drive on roadways laned for traffic after a crash on Red Horse Road, just east of Route 901 in North Manheim Township, at 4:40 p.m. Thursday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the teen was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse east when he braked and swerved to avoid hitting a cat that ran onto the highway.

The car left about 120 feet of yaw marks on the road before exiting onto the shoulder and continuing an additional 40 feet before going down an embankment.

The car did not sustain any damage and was able to be driven from the scene, police said.
