MIDDLEPORT - The Citizen's Fire Company No. 1 Middleport, District 51, may have to store its fire engine elsewhere because of the volume of donations for victims of superstorm Sandy.
"It's just overwhelming. Soon we won't be able to park the engine in the garage, that's how full we're getting," said Todd Amos, company president, Friday.
The fire company, businesses and other organizations have been collecting donations for victims,
Amos said a man from Wilkes-Barre drove to the area and donated a large number of new stuffed animals.
To date, 300 to 400 bags of clothing, toys, bedding, pet items water, bedding supplies and water are just a few of the items that have been given for the effort. "It's unbelievable how much people are donating," he said.
Today is the last day for donations. Those wanting to donate can drop items off at the Middleport Fire Company, Saint Clair Street, Amos said people have been generous with money too, giving $2,000.
Monday, people are leaving to go to Hoboken, N.J. The Toms River area isn't accepting any more donations, he said.
"They're so oversaturated with stuff it's not funny," he said.
Volunteers are still needed to help distribute items and give a helping hand.
