SAINT CLAIR - An accidental fire damaged a conveyor belt at E.A. Quirin Machine Shop on Monday afternoon, according to Travis Rodrian, assistant fire chief for Saint Clair.

The fire was reported at the shop, just off Route 61 and Wade Road, about 2:35 p.m., Rodrian said.

The business is owned by E.A. Quirin Machine Shop Authority, according to the online Schuylkill Parcel Locator.

A maintenance worker at the shop was using a torch to cut metal and in the process, he set fire to a conveyor belt, Rodrian said.

"It was just that one machine. The whole conveyor belt was pretty much on fire, but it was all encased in a steel tube so the fire was contained," Rodrian said.

The fire was out within minutes. The rubber surface of the conveyor was damaged. There were no injuries, Rodrian said.
