fled accident
BARNESVILLE - A Pine Grove woman suffered a minor injury, and will face charges, in a one-car accident Wednesday morning on Interstate 818 in Ryan Township, police said.
State police at Frackville said Erica Reilly, 31, was driving north at mile marker 127 when she drove her 1995 Nissan Altima onto the left shoulder of the road. The car then struck the guiderail and came to rest in the left northbound lane, police said.
However, Reilly, who was wearing her seatbelt and suffered a minor injury, then left the car and fled into a wooded area next to the crash site, according to police.
Police have charged Reilly with driving under suspension, operating vehicle without required financial responsibility, failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic, failure to drive at a safe speed, leaving vehicle unattended, abandoning a vehicle, careless driving, failure to stop and give information and render aid, accident involving damage to unattended vehicle or property, violation of restrictions on alcoholic beverages and operating vehicle without certificate of inspection.
The state Department of Transportation, Hoffman's Towing and the state police Aviation Unit assisted at the scene.
Rush Twp. police
probe incidents
HOMETOWN - Rush Township police reported handling two incidents in their coverage area.
On Sunday, police said Ryan L. Seigel, 26, of Mahanoy City, was taken into custody on a bench warrant from Dauphin County after he was in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation on Mahanoy Avenue.
Police said Seigel was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on the outstanding warrant.
Then, on Monday, police said a 46-year-old Pottsville woman is facing charges after she was stopped for a traffic violation on Claremont Avenue at 1:17 a.m.
Police said Valerie Underkoffler is facing charges of DUI and driving while under DUI suspension pending the results of a blood alcohol test taken at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
Auto damaged
in Cass crash
DUNCOTT - A Minersville motorist suffered no injuries, but his car was damaged, in a one-vehicle Tuesday morning crash at 130 Schaeffer Hill Road in Cass Township, according to police.
State police at Frackville said that Marc Galen, 19, was driving north about 8:05 a.m. in his 2004 Dodge Stratus when he lost control of his car on the snow-covered road.
Galen's car left the right side of the road, struck a mailbox, hit a small ditch and came to rest in the middle of the road, police said.
Police said Galen, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt but his car, which had multiple airbags deployed, sustained moderate front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
