2 injured in
Port Carbon crash
PORT CARBON - A 73-year-old Middleport man and a 73-year-old Middleport woman were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Route 209, about a mile north of Wood Street, East Norwegian Township, at 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Adam J. Kasten, 20, of Middleport, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier south on Route 209 and lost control of the vehicle after swerving to avoid a deer, crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2008 Dodge Caliber driven by Louis A. Fernando.
Fernando and a passenger, Barbara E. Fernando, were transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street to be treated for minor injuries, police said.
Kasten and a passenger were not injured, police said.
Assisting at the scene were Port Carbon Fire Department, East Norwegian Township Fire Department, Saint Clair Fire Department, Blythe Township Fire Department and Pottsville/Schuylkill HAven Area EMS.
