City man to face

trespass charges

SAINT CLAIR - A 41-year-old Pottsville man is facing charges of simple trespass by state police at Schuylkill Haven after an incident at 11:57 p.m. Sunday at the Independent Hose Company in East Norwegian Township.

Police said Jerry W. Pflueger, Dieners Hill, entered the company property carrying a Sawzall and threatened to "cut up" playground equipment.

The man did not do any damage and was confronted by company members.

Charges against Pflueger will be filed with Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Pot Carbon.

Man to face

harassment charge

WESTON PLACE - A 24-year-old man will be charged by state police at Frackville with harassment after a domestic incident at his home at 159 Weston Place in West Mahanoy Township at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Police said Jeremy George Colosimo will have to answer to the charge before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah.

Police said they were called to the home and learned Colosimo initiated physical contact with Angela M. Tarson, 22, during an argument.

3 injured

in 2-car crash

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - State police at Schuylkill Haven said three people were injured when two vehicles collided at Route 61 and Manheim Road in North Manheim Township at 6:50 a.m. Monday.

Police said Shantel Schwartz, 31, of Pottsville, was driving a 2001 Saturn LS1 south on Route 61 in the left lane when she tried to turn left onto Manheim Road at a green light and drove directly into the path of a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta that was being driven north on Route 61 by Joseph Koch, 42, of New Ringgold.

Koch's vehicle struck Schwartz's vehicle broadside, police said.

After the impact, Schwartz drove into the parking lot and went to a parking space alongside the store. She then placed the vehicle in reverse and struck a guide rail.

Schwartz and Koch each suffered minor injuries while a passenger in Schwartz's vehicle, William Weikel, 40, of Pottsville, suffered major injuries, police said.

Pitman woman

not hurt in crash

TAYLORSVILLE - A 23-year-old Pitman woman escaped injury when the 1997 Pontiac Sunfire she was driving crashed on Taylorsville Road in Barry Township at 5:32 p.m. Sunday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Ashley Matter was driving west when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control, west off the road and struck a deer.

Road worker

injured in crash

VIRGINVILLE - A construction worker was injured when a tractor-trailer crashed in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78, at mile marker 38.9 in Greenwich Township, Berks County, at 9:5 a.m. Monday.

State police at Hamburg said Harvey W. Henry, 50, of Port Clinton, was driving a 2012 Volvo tractor-trailer east in the right lane while a 2012 International construction truck was stopped in the right lane with three construction workers outside setting up signs for lane closures.

The construction truck had its warning lights, crush bars and arrow board working at the time showing the lane was closed, police said.

Henry, police said, failed to see the vehicle until the last moment and struck the rear of that truck before traveling across the left lane and into a concrete median.

The construction truck was pushed about 15 feet forward, police said, adding that one worker, Joseph Hall, 23, of Leesport, was handing out signs to other workers from the rear of the construction truck and was thrown from the vehicle on impact.

Hall was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, for treatment of moderate head and back injuries, police said.

Henry and two other construction workers, Derek Brown, 33, and David Yagalla, 32, both of Weatherly, were not hurt, police said.

The crash closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 for about two hours and police said Kutztown and Virginville firefighters and Hamburg EMS assisted at the scene.

McAdoo woman

to face charges

McADOO - McAdoo police charged a 21-year-old borough woman after a traffic stop on South Kennedy Drive about 1:25 a.m. Nov. 22.

Police said Monday that Angelia M. Seliga, 401 S. Kennedy Drive, will have to appear before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, on charges of DUI, general lighting requirements, driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked and careless driving.

Police said officers pulled over a vehicle driven by Seliga for driving too fast on South Kennedy Drive and found her to be under the influence.

Police said the woman was charged with DUI after refusing to submit to a blood alcohol test and taken to her residence.

2 injured in crash

near Port Carbon

PORT CARBON - Two people suffered minor injuries when two vehicles collided on Route 209, just north of Wood Street in East Norwegian Township, at 5:40 p.m. Saturday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Adam Kasten, 20, of Middleport, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier south when a deer entered his lane of travel causing him to swerve to miss the animal.

In doing so, police said, Kasten lost control, entered the northbound lane and collided with an oncoming 2008 Dodge Caliber driven by Louis Fernando, 73, of Middleport.

Fernando and his passenger, Barbara Fernando, 73, also of Middleport, both suffered minor injuries while Kasten and his passenger, Annmarie Weisbach, 17, of Tamaqua, were not hurt, police said.

Port Carbon, East Norwegian Township, Blythe Township and Saint Clair firefighters assisted at the scene along with Pottsville-Schuylkill Haven Area EMS.

McAdoo man

faces charges

McADOO - McAdoo police filed charges of burglary, criminal trespass and receiving stolen property against a 51-year-old borough man stemming from an incident at 104 E. Jackson St. on Nov. 7.

Police said John O'Lear, 218 E. Sherman St., will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police said O'Lear entered the home of Richard Yanoski and stole silver dollars that were on a night stand in the bedroom.
