n Pottsville: In a press release, Schuylkill County Treasurer Jacqueline V. McGovern reminded county dog owners that 2013 dog licenses are available for purchase. State law, according to McGovern, requires that all dogs 3 months or older be licensed. Failure to license a dog is a summary offense and a maximum fine of $500 for each unlicensed dog can be issued. License applications are available at the county treasurer's office. A list of 2013 Schuylkill County dog agents and a downloadable application are available online at www.co.schuylkill.pa.us/Offices/Treasurer/Treasurer.asp or go online to purchase a license at PADogLicense.com. McGovern also said 2013 fishing licenses also are available. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission also is selling three-year licenses valid through 2015 and five-year licenses valid through 2017. Multi-year trout/salmon, Lake Erie and combo permits also are available for purchase, according to McGovern's release. Fishing licenses are available at the treasurer's office as well as at the Outdoor Shop and various other issuing agents.

n Pottsville: Theresa Santai Gaffney, Schuylkill County register of wills and clerk of the orphans' court, released the following report for November: Estates processed, 69; marriage licenses issued, 29; adoptions completed, 9; inheritance tax remitted to the commonwealth, $426,853.15; county fees collected, $17,371.50. n Shenandoah: Knights of Columbus Council 618 will sponsor bingo games Sunday at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Parish Hall, Main and Oak streets. Doors will open at noon and games will begin at 2 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available. For more information, call 570-617-2000 or 570-590-1188. Everyone is welcome.

n Shenandoah: The Guadalupe celebration the Mananita (early morning) of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be marked at Annunciation BVM Roman Catholic Church, Cherry and Chestnut streets, at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday with music and prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as a Mass in her honor, according to the church bulletin. The Mass will be followed by a continental breakfast in the Annunciation Rectory. The Mass for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be celebrated at noon Sunday. The celebration will continue with food and music at St. Casimir Roman Catholic Parish Hall, 229 N. Jardin St. In preparation for the feast, a nine-day novena is under way. It began Dec. 3 and will conclude at 6 p.m. today. Everyone is welcome to take part in all of the events.

n Shenandoah: The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society, 201 S. Main St., has items for sale, including the 2012 ornament, featuring the old Home Brewery that once stood at the site that now houses the St. Casimir Roman Catholic Parish Playground, Main and Washington streets. The society's 2011 ornament, featuring the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society Museum & Headquarters at 105 S. Jardin St., also is available, as well as older ornaments. Society spokeswoman Andrea Pytak said the society also has cookbooks for sale. Anyone interested should contact any society member or the 116 N. Main St. headquarters of the revitalization group Downtown Shenandoah Inc.

n Tamaqua: The Black Diamond Writers' Network will stage a roundtable discussion regarding 2013 writing goals from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Tamaqua Public Library, 30 S. Railroad St. Network spokeswoman Kathy Ruff said the discussion will help writers "whittle away at the projects close to your heart." A holiday get-together will follow the event. n Tremont: The Tremont Band under the direction of Rod Luckenbill will host its annual Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Saturday Dec. 15 in the Tremont Community Building, Clay Street. The snow date is Dec. 22. There will be refreshments and fellowship, sponsored by the Tremont Community Organization and the band following the concert. Everyone is welcome.
