in Shen accident
SHENANDOAH - Borough police said a borough man involved in an accident in the 700 block of East Centre Street on Saturday will face charges.
Police said Rafael Lopez, 44, of 221 E. Centre St., Apt. 4, will have to answer to Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker on charges of driving at an unsafe speed, driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked and seat belt violations.
Police said Lopez was driving west on a rain-soaked Route 54 about 11:10 a.m. when he lost control and slammed into a garage owned by Peter Lawson, 700 E. Centre St.
Lopez was taken to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for treatment of injuries he suffered in the crash, police said.

hit-and-run case
SHENANDOAH - Borough police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred Saturday evening or Sunday morning at 210 N. Main St.
Police said a 2012 Subaru Legacy was struck between 7 p.m. Saturday and 12:15 p.m. Sunday while it was legally parked. The driver struck the rear bumper of the parked car, tearing it and dislodging it from the car before fleeing the area, police said.

at drug safe
FRIEDENSBURG - A burglary that occurred about 2:45 a.m. Sunday at Glad RX Pharmacy, 216 N. Route 183, Wayne Township, is being investigated by state police at Schuylkill Haven.
Police said someone went to the business on a four-wheeler, forced open a rear door and an inside door to get at a drug safe. The person or persons tried to force the drug safe open but was unable to do so and fled.

injured in crash
BETHEL - State police at Jonestown investigated a crash that occurred on Route 343 at Route 22 in Bethel Township, Lebanon County, at 6:20 p.m. Saturday.
Police said Marjorie Balsbaugh, 54, of Bethel, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer turning onto Route 22 east when she ran into the back of a 2011 Dodge Dakota that was being driven in front of her by Barbara Fischer, 63, of Pine Grove.
Police said Fischer slowed down to merge onto Route 22 and that both she and Balsbaugh were traveling at a slow speed when the crash occurred.
Fischer was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, for treatment of neck pain while Balsbaugh was not hurt, police said.
Balsbaugh will be cited for following too closely as a result of the crash, police said.
Police: Man fled
accident scene
Pottsville police investigated a crash that occurred in the 2000 block of Elk Avenue about 1:20 a.m. Sunday where a vehicle was on its roof and the driver fled the scene.
Police said it was learned that Cody Conway, 22, of Pottsville, was driving east when his Jeep Liberty crossed into the oncoming traffic lane and struck a legally parked Ford truck owned by Jerry and Josephine Pritchett, Pottsville.
Police said Conway was later taken into custody for suspicion of DUI, taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood alcohol test and later released.
Charges are pending against Conway, and police said the man's vehicle was towed from the scene.

endangerment
A 30-year-old Pottsville man was jailed Saturday after a 6-year-old boy was found wandering the streets with no coat.
Police said they determined the boy lived at 235 Pierce St. and went to the house where they found the child's father, Eric Brown, had been drinking and smoking marijuana and passed out. The child left the home to find his mother to take care of him and his siblings, police said.
Police said they found a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl in the house.
Brown was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, on three counts of endangering the welfare of children and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail, police said.
Fiber optic cable
taken from pole
ASHLAND - Someone stole a 4-foot section of fiber-optic cable from a utility pole in Barry Township, police said.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the theft at Post and Airport roads occurred between midnight and 7 a.m. Wednesday. Those responsible fled after cutting the cable owned by Verizon.
