ORWIGSBURG - Work continues at the new site of the Hidden River Credit Union.

Workers of Wagner Construction, Harrisburg, moved asphalt Wednesday and prepared an entrance to the new building at 629 W. Market St.

"We're shooting for mid March depending on weather," said Dennis Carolan, site supervisor for Overton Associates, a design company based in Westminister, Md., about the opening date.

He said work started in November.

The site had been the location of the Market Place, a store that sold milk, coffee, newspapers and other items until it closed late last year. It was sold in April, according to the credit union.

James Patton, former owner of the store, said declining sales was among the reasons for the closure.

Hidden River has three sites in the county: 60 Westwood Road, Pottsville; 705 W. Market St., Orwigsburg, and 250 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven.

A call to Warren Schach, facility maintenance security coordinator with Hidden River, was not returned Wednesday.

Along with the building, plans for the site show three drive thru lanes, one of which will be for an ATM and the other two for a send-tube system.

"Right now, we're starting to cut in windows," Carolan said.

Asphalt was visible in a pile near the doors. A new entrance to the approximately 2,500-square-foot building is planned.

Borough Manager Mike Lonergan said plans for the site were approved about three weeks ago. He said he thought the facility would open in March or April of 2013.
