n Frackville: The Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters' Association will hold its first quarterly meeting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Friendship Fire Company, Englewood, Seventh and Pine streets. All Schuylkill County fire companies are urged to send a representative. A major announcement regarding training and the Schuylkill County Training Academy will be made, association officials said in a release.
n McAdoo: Keystone Fire Company No. 1, Grant and Hancock streets, will sponsor a food sale from noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 6. The menu will include: Drop noodle haluski, $2.50 per bowl or $6.50 per quart; potato pancakes, $1 each or three for $2.50. The company also has chicken cheese hoagies for $5.50 and steak and cheese hoagies for $5.50. Extra toppings for the hoagies - onions, sweet peppers or hot peppers and mushrooms - will add 25 cents to the cost. Plain pizza is $8 per pan. Pizza toppings include bacon, sausage, pepperoni, sweet peppers, hot peppers and mushrooms for $1 extra per topping. n McAdoo: The St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church Guild is selling chicken tenders, lightly breaded seasoned crumbs and ready to cook, via advance orders only. The tenders are frozen and available in five-pound bags at $25 per bag. The order deadline is Feb. 1. Orders may be picked up at the church hall, 17 E. Blaine St., between 3 and 5 p.m. Feb. 4. n Pottsville: The Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling Center, 17 Westwood Center, Pottsville, and 615 Cumberland St., Lebanon, is gearing up for its next Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraiser and needs at least 40 men willing to don high heels on Feb. 16 and participate in a YouTube video, according to a release from Jenny Murphy-Shifflet, the center's president and chief executive officer. The taping will be at the YMCA, North Centre Street, Pottsville, on Feb. 16. SARCC serves Lebanon and Schuylkill counties. n Schuylkill Haven: The Schuylkill Haven Area School District will conduct kindergarten screening for students who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1. n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 12-14 at Rush Elementary and March 15 at West Penn Elementary, according to a district press release. To schedule an appointment, parents/guardians should call the Tamaqua Area Elementary School - 570-668-3306 - from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. beginning Feb. 27. Registration packets can be picked up at all three elementary schools beginning Feb. 27. Paperwork to be filled out by parents/guardians also is available at the school district website, www.tamaqua.k12.pa.us. For registration, parents/guardians must bring their child, proof of residency, the child's health an immunization records and original birth certificate. During registration, children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, a nurse and a speech therapist.
n Tamaqua: Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church will host a GriefShare program designed to assist people who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The course is Biblically based but nondenominational, according to organizers. Meetings will be held in the church conference room, 223 E.
