charge pair

TAMAQUA - Borough police arrested two residents after stopping a vehicle at 5:50 p.m. July 16, detecting and finding marijuana.

Police said the incident took place at Washington and Jerome streets as Dillian Zehner and his passenger, Travis Hill, was stopped by police.

Police said a consent search was given and 23 grams of marijuana was found under the passenger seat.

Both men were arrested and taken to the police station, police said.

Zehner was cited for disorderly conduct.

Charges were filed Wednesday against Hill for the marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Businesses cited

for violations

The Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement charged two businesses with offenses relating to liquor law violations, the clean indoor act and the state crimes code.

The district enforcement office in Allentown charged The Happy Ending Inc., Tamaqua, and Sarge's Soup & Sandwiches Inc., Pottsville, with violations.

The Tamaqua bar at 315 N. Railroad St. was charged with violating the state liquor code, section 471 and the section of the Clean Indoor Act, smoke and or permitted smoking in a public place. The nature of the liquor violation was not made available, police said. The alleged incidents took place Aug. 3, 15, 18 and 19.

The second business charged, Sarge's Soup and Sandwiches Inc., 538 N. Centre St., was charged with violating the same liquor code and section and the crimes code dealing with possessing or operating gambling devices or paraphernalia or permitted gambling or lotteries, poolselling and/ or bookmaking at the site. No dates were provided for the alleged violations.

An administrative law judge will deal with the violations and can issue penalties from $50 to $1,000 for minor offenses and up to $5,000 for more serious violations. The judge can also impose a license suspension or revocation of the license depending on circumstances. Training about requirements for license holders can also be mandated.
