n Girardville: Two joint choir presentations of "Behold the Star" will be held Friday and Saturday. The community cantata about "A Christmas Journey to the Light of Christ," written by Lloyd Larson and directed by local choir director Dan Krynak, will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, West Main Street, and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ United Lutheran Church, Airport Road, Gordon. Everyone is welcome.

n Lavelle: The Lavelle Church of the Nazarene, Route 901, will host a concert featuring His Servants, a Southern gospel harmony group from the Trevorton area, at 10:45 a.m. Jan. 6 at the church. Everyone is welcome to attend. The group has been together for nine years, its members coming from several churches.

n McAdoo: The McAdoo Lions Club will sponsor its home decorating contest this year. All residents of the McAdoo area are invited to register their home for judging by calling Anne Berlitz at 570-929-1732 or Beverly Ogrodnick at 570-929-1224.

n Millersburg: The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art will stage the next installment of its arts and entertainment series, Chili & Jazz with Blue Elephant, at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 the Wooden Nickel Annex, 210 S. Market St. The $25 cost will include chili and cornbread. A cash bar will be available. For more information or tickets, call 717-692-3699. n Pottsville: The Pottsville Free Public Library recently acknowledged the following memorial donations: For Barbara Hanna from Barbara Hoehn and Deborah Rehrig; for Thomas Hoffman from Mr. and Mrs. Michael E. Kosick; for Allen and Ginny McCully from Diane M. McCully. The library also acknowledged the following honor donations: For Peggy Jaeger from Becky Matz; for Dr. Joseph C. Koval from Tom and Anne Curry; for Barbara Kull (for 70th birthday) from Joanne Barton; for John Norton from Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Bechtel; for Dr. Gerald Ravitz from Tom and Anne Curry.

n Pottsville: At a recent meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club, members enjoyed a performance by the Pottsville Area High School Chorale, which is part of the high school choir. The chorale invited the Rotarians to join in a holiday sing-along for the finale tune, according to the Rotary bulletin. Guests at the meeting include Capt. Tammy Hench of the Salvation Army and Joel Kock from WAVT Radio. The club's president-elect, Clint del Valle, said the club received a matching grant from the Rotary district to begin work on the Rotary Pavilion at the Gen. George A. Joulwan Park. Del Valle was recognized for his efforts in obtaining the grant. Work is expected to begin in the spring.

n Shenandoah: Prayer of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and recitation of the Rosary at 3 p.m. Fridays is an ongoing devotion by the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters and Associates in the Father Walter J. Ciszek Chapel, 231 N. Jardin St., adjacent to St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church. Everyone is welcome to participate.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St., is sponsoring an exhibit featuring local students Dec. 27. n Tamaqua: The Coffee Cafe is held from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays at the Tamaqua Salvation Army center, 105 W. Broad St. Senior citizens are encouraged to relax with friends and enjoy a cup o' Joe with community peers. Participants can take part in discussions on current events, play cards or board games, build puzzles or view morning TV programs. Soup & Something luncheons are held at noon Mondays at a cost of $2 for senior citizens.
