cause of crash
SAINT CLAIR - A 26-year-old Mahanoy City man escaped injury when the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta he was driving crashed on the Burma Road in Blythe Township at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
State police at Frackville said Anthony J. Mizic was driving south when he struck a deer trying to cross the road.
After hitting the animal, the man's car went off of the road and struck a tree, causing disabling damage, police said.
Student charged
for hand gesture
TAMAQUA - A 13-year-old Tamaqua Area Middle School student is facing charges of disorderly conduct after an incident at the school about 8 a.m. Wednesday.
State police at Frackville said that in addition to the charge that will be filed in district court, the student is also receiving a suspension from school.
The seventh-grader, police said, made a gesture with his fingers in reference to a gun while pointing at other students.
Man identified
in bat incident
WILLIAMSTOWN - A Williamstown man is facing charges of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and reckless driving after an incident on Route 209 in the area of the Williams Valley High School in Williams Township, Dauphin County, about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
State police at Lykens said Woody Von Fregia will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Margerum, Elizabethville.
Police said Fregia was driving west when he passed a vehicle being driven by a 60-year-old Tower City woman in a school zone.
The woman flashed her lights to warn the driver he was in a school zone but Fregia slammed on his brakes, came to a stop and exited his vehicle with a baseball bat, police said.
When the woman tried to drive around Fregia, police said the man struck the rear passenger's side of her vehicle with the bat breaking the rear passenger's side window.
Pine Grove woman
to face charges
PINE GROVE - Bobbi Jean Wright, Pine Grove, was charged with theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle following an incident that occurred between 12:01 and 6:50 a.m. Saturday.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident occurred as Wright stole a 2013 Mazda CX5 belonging to Lacey Bock, Pine Grove, that was parked in a driveway outside her residence.
Wright stole the keys from the table and took the car without Bock's knowledge, police said.
State police at Jonestown encountered the vehicle in the early morning hours and charged Wright with DUI.
She was transported to Schuylkill County Prison and was arraigned via video before on call Magisterial District Judge James K. Reilly, Pottsville, police said.
Wright was unable to post bail and was incarcerated in Schuylkill County Prison, police said.
