McCann School of Business in Pottsville wants to help people get back in shape and into a new career this year at its Winter Wake-Up Open House on Saturday.
Shannon Brennan, campus director, said that with the holidays being a challenging time for lots of people, when they may not look or feel the way they wish, or may not be working in a job they're proud of or even working at all, it can be hard on their self-esteem.
"Many people end up making a vow on December 31st to make some changes so that next year they will be proud of where their life is and McCann decided it would be good to provide some assistance," Brennan said. "The new year is always about new beginnings, getting yourself healthy and getting your life in order."
McCann invited local gyms to take part in the Winter Wake-Up, being held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 2650 Woodglen Road, Pottsville. The program will promote a healthy body for current students and staff and it will be combined with an open house at the school.
"The community can come in, meet with some fitness centers like Schuylkill YMCA, Anytime Fitness or Extreme Fitness and get membership deals, meet the staff and work on their body," Brennan said. "They can also meet with the staff and faculty of McCann, take a tour, hear about the programs we offer and look at a new future."
There will also be vendors on site, many of which are current McCann students that Brennan said run their own small businesses on the side.
They will sell items from Pampered Chef, Avon, Tupperware, Valenta Chocolates, Mary Kay, Longenberger, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple, Thirty-One Bags, Wild Tree and Premiere Designs.
The event also includes activities for children, such as "Art to Eat," where they can make edible art projects.
